Vicksburg Warren School District 4 Trustee Joe Loviza continues to give back to the school that was a big part of his life.

“I dedicated lots of time to Hinds Community College and I feel that it is important to give back to the school that nurtured me,” said Loviza, who was the first dean of the Hinds campus in Vicksburg.

Loviza and his family announced Thursday that they are giving a third scholarship to Hinds Community College in Vicksburg in honor of his sister, Myrtle Loviza Curro Alvarado, and his daughter, Kathleen Loviza Miles.

Loviza has given other scholarships to Hinds in honor of the Vocational Technological programs and in honor of his family members, John J. and Mabel H. Loviza. All scholarships are only open to Vicksburg-Warren County students. The scholarship amount depends on the amount of interest that builds up over a period of time. Loviza said that the scholarship is usually between $500 and $800.

One of Loviza’s main concerns for being involved in giving scholarships to Hinds is to get Vicksburg graduates and adults jobs.

“I’ve always been interested in the well-being of our students. Helping them find jobs has always been important to me because there are opportunities here in Mississippi.”
