A Vicksburg man was found dead Sunday in a stranger’s swimming pool about 10 miles from his home.
A homeowner about 7:30 a.m. Sunday found the man in her swimming pool in the 1700 block of Lakeside Drive, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
“There was a man in her swimming pool that she believed to be deceased,” Pace said.
Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey identified the man as Gerald Royal, 49, 324 John Allen St.
The autopsy revealed no signs of foul play and indicated drowning was the cause of death, Pace said. Toxicology results from autopsies typically take weeks or months to come back from the Mississippi Crime Lab.
Fisher Ferry firefighters were the first to respond to the home, and found the body in the pool, Pace said. Deputies arrived minutes later.
“He had no identification on him and was not known to the resident,” Pace said.
The in-ground pool is not surrounded by any fencing, Pace said. Deputies went door-to-door trying to determine if anyone in the neighborhood was missing when they discovered he had been at a party across the street from where he was found dead, Pace said. We were able to identify the victim as having been a participant at the party,” Pace said. “Partygoers reported him being last seen walking across the street.” Royal had received a ride to the party, and did not have a vehicle there, Pace said. Funeral arrangements for Royal are pending with Lakeview Funeral Home, Huskey said.
