Fire damages home in Kings

An early morning fire Friday heavily damaged a vacant house at 229 R.L. Chase Circle next to the Kings Empowerment Center off North Washington Street.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Charles Atkins said the fire was called in about 6 a.m. Friday. He said the house was being remodeled and the owners were traveling back and forth from Arkansas to work on it. The house has electricity and water. The owner’s name was not available.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Three arrested on warrants

Warren County sheriff’s deputies worked with agents from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force Wednesday morning and arrested two Vicksburg men on felony warrants, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Deputies at 6 a.m. arrested Tyrone Carter II, 37, 820 Jackson St., on a warrant accusing him of failure to register as a sex offender. He was released on $2,500 bond.

Thirty minutes later, they arrested Melvin Harris, 22, 1501 Military Ave., on a Mississippi Department of Corrections warrant charging his with probation violation. Harris, Pace said, was on probation from an earlier case. Harris was being held without bond in the Warren County Jail.

In an unrelated case, a one-car wreck on Oak Ridge Road about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday resulted in the arrest of a Warren County man on a warrant for probation violation from Georgia. David William Anglin, 32, 10253 Oak Ridge Road, was arrested after a records check at the accident revealed the warrant. He was being held in the Warren County Jail for Georgia authorities.

 

One held for stolen property

A Warren County man accused of acquiring stolen goods was held without bail in the Warren County jail Friday.

Joseph Nash, 28, 209 West Drive, was arrested Friday and charged with receiving stolen property, according to Warren County jail records.

 

One free on possession charge

A Vicksburg man accused of having a stolen weapon was free on bail Friday.

Tyler Wigley, 20, 540 Old Cain Ridge Road, was arrested Friday and charged with possession of stolen firearm, according to Warren County jail records.
