Jimmy Nevels and Mike Allred finish painting the stage inside the ballroom of the B’nai B’rith Literary Club Thursday. The BB Club, built in 1917, was home to the seventh Mississippi chapter of the B’nai B’rith Literary Association, a Jewish literary society. The building was bought in 1961 by the city and served as the police station for 26 years. Owner Laurence Leyens bought the club from the city in June 1999 and started remodeling it for social and cultural events. The bulk of the construction will be finished Friday on the ballroom and most of the building will be completed Friday, he said. (The Vicksburg Post/MELANIE DUNCAN)
