JESSIE BURTON

PORT GIBSON Jessie Burton died Monday, March 12, 2001, at her home. She was 74.

Mrs. Burton was a member and usher at Morningstar M.B. Church in Lorman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldridge Governor Bailey and Augusta Hall Bailey; two daughters, Shirley Burton and Julia Marie Bailey; and a brother, Earl Bailey.

Survivors include four sons, Calvin Bailey, McLawrence Bailey and Wiley Davis, all of Port Gibson, and Sylvester Burton of Las Vegas; two sisters, Mable Archer and Frances Whiting, both of Port Gibson; a brother, Wilbert Archer of Port Gibson; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends, including Willie Francis Bailey of Cleveland, Miss.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Morningstar M.B. Church with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery in Russum.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

LOUIS DAVIS

PORT GIBSON Louis Davis died Monday, March 12, 2001, at his home. He was 74.

Mr. Davis was a member and deacon at Greater St. Mark M.B. Church. He worked as a professional carpenter in Claiborne County for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Davis Sr. and Cora Green; his wife, Geneva Jennings-Davis; two sisters, Lillie Tarleton and Catherine Anderson; and five brothers, Lawrence Davis, Major Davis, Robert Davis, Johnnie Davis and Charles Davis.

He is survived by two sons, Hansel Davis of Decatur, Ga., and Rufus Davis of Port Gibson; four daughters, Virgie Davis Mays of Natchez, Delphine Davis of San Diego and Octavis Davis and Genette Davis-Edwards, both of Port Gibson; four brothers, Willie Davis and Frank Davis Jr., both of Waukegan, Ill., Green Lee Davis of Harvey, Ill., and George Davis of Knoxville, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nephews, including Jerry Davis of Port Gibson; nieces; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater St. Mark M.B. Church with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating. Burial will follow at the Jennings Family Cemetery in Hermanville.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.

GEORGE WILLIAM GRIFFIN

CROWDER George William Griffin died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in Crowder. He was 76.

Mr. Griffin is survived by two sons, Jonathan Griffin and George Griffin Jr., both of Crowder; two daughters, LaTanya Griffin and Sherica Griffin, both of Crowder; two sisters, Mary Lee Bell of Vicksburg and Georgia M. Howard of Maywood, Ill.; a brother, Henry Griffin of Maywood; seven nephews, three nieces; and other relatives.

Delta Bell Funeral Corporation in Crowder has charge of the arrangements.

KATIE MAE HALL HARRIS

Katie Mae Hall Harris died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 61.

Mrs. Harris was born in Tallulah and was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of Zion Traveler’s Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Hall Sr. and Mary Hall; and two brothers, Willie Hall Jr. and Marvin Hall.

She is survived by three daughters, Mildred Hall Williams, Barbara Harris and Cindy Harris Daniels, all of Vicksburg; seven sisters, Mary Alice Hall, Bertha Hall Anderson and Clara Elmore Reynolds, all of Vicksburg, Carlene Wilson, Mary Alice Hall, Michelle Daniels and Vivian Hall, all of Waynesboro; seven brothers, Nathaniel Hall, Joe Hall and Eugene Hall, all of Chicago, Johnnie Hall of Atlanta, James Wilson of Ohio, Willie Hall of Waynesboro and Contee Hall of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of the arrangements.

MARY KLINE JANUARY

ZION, Ill. Mary Kline January died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in Zion, Ill. She was 87.

Mrs. January was a former resident of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley January; her parents, Addison and Isabell Kline; five brothers; and 10 sisters.

She is survived by eight daughters, four sons, a brother, a sister, 76 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and other relatives including the Kline, Thomas and January families of Vicksburg.

Services and burial will be Saturday in Zion under the direction of Congdon Funeral Home.
