SISTER MARY HELEN BATTAGLIA

Sister Mary Helen Battaglia, R.S.M., died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Our Lady of Wisdom Health Center in New Orleans. She was 97.

Sister Battaglia was born in McComb and was baptized Emmanuela Battaglia. She entered the Sisters of Mercy Community at St. Francis Xavier in Vicksburg and made her first vows on March 12, 1926.

She received her bachelor of arts degree at Our Land of the Lake in San Antonio and her masters of arts degree at Catholic University in 1964. Her ministry included teaching and working in the library at schools in Mississippi.

Sister Battaglia retired at McAuley Home in Vicksburg. In December 1999, she moved to Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center in New Orleans.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Santa Battaglia Dozier, and a brother, Joseph Battaglia.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Services were at 3 p.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center.

RICHARD W. CALHOUN

Richard W. Calhoun died Thursday, April 5, 2001. He was 45.

Mr. Calhoun was born in Jackson and had been a resident of Vicksburg for 32 years. He was a former heating and air conditioning technician in the Vicksburg area and was previously employed at Bell’s Ice Co.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Calhoun; a son, Kyle Calhoun of Vicksburg; his father, Marshall Eugene Calhoun of Statesville, N.C.; his mother, Stella H. Calhoun of Vicksburg; a brother, Stephan Calhoun of Clinton; two sisters, Cindy King of Vicksburg and Beverly Moses of Brandon; and a grandmother, Grace Calhoun of Brandon.

Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Green Acres Memorial Park with the Rev. Rick McAllister officiating.

MARTHA MUIRHEAD KLEINMAN

Martha Muirhead Kleinman died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., while on vacation. She was 80.

Mrs. Kleinman was a native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was a homemaker and served as a child care provider for many years. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar M. and Minnie Lee Wright Muirhead.

She is survived by her husband, Albert M. Kleinman Sr.; three daughters, Kay K. McGee of Lorman, Lynn K. Moore of Natchez and Martha Ellen K. Hall of Vicksburg; four sons, Albert M. Kleinman Jr., of Vicksburg, David R. Kleinman of Vicksburg, Paul Benson Kleinman of Vicksburg and John R. Kleinman of Vicksburg; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Kent Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the service.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 530 Mission 66, Vicksburg, Miss. 39180 or to the Vicksburg Warren Humane Society, P.O. Box 820171, Vicksburg, Miss. 39182.

Pallbearers will be J.W. Wright Jr., Albert M. Kleinman III, Claude Tully Hall Jr., Timothy G. Wright, Kasey C. Kleinman, Benjamin Kleinman Hall, Gregory Lee Mims and Casey E. Trest.
