Approved out-of-state travel for First Sgt. Noland Smith, Warren Central High School’s NJROTC instructor, to New Orleans July 17-18 for the Area Eight Annual Manager’s Meeting.

Approved a $21,700 contract between Beechwood Elementary and Teacher Universe Inc., the sole provider, for Galaxy Classroom, a program that motivates student learning in language arts and science. The contract will be funded through the CSRD grant.

Approved the purchase of Classroom Connect’s Total Package from Classroom Connect Inc., the sole provider. The online software will be used for professional development courses at Sherman Avenue Elementary. The cost is $17,340 and will be covered through the Technology Literacy Grant.

Approved the purchase of data diskettes for scoring Terra Nova from CTB/McGraw-Hill, the sole provider. The cost is $3731.52.

Accepted 15 instruments from Warren Central Junior High School Band Boosters to the school’s band department. The total value of the instruments is $3,100.

Accepted a sign valued at $1,380.60 donated by Redwood Boosters to Redwood Elementary.

Accepted a used color copier valued at $250 donated by Vicksburg Housing Authority to Vicksburg Junior High School. The copier will be placed in the library.

Accepted 20 Gateway computers and one jet printer donated by the Mississippi State Department of Education to Dana Road Elementary School. The total value of the equipment is $13,299.

Accepted a used computer valued at $100 donated by the Corps of Engineers to Dana Road Elementary.

Accepted six pieces of electronic equipment donated by Warrenton Elementary School PTO to the elementary two DakTech Computers valued at $1,199 each, two RCA televisions valued at $150 each and two RCA video recorders valued at $120 each. The total value of the equipment is $2,937.94.

Accepted a freezer valued at $50 donated by Gerard J. Bowen Jr. to Vicksburg High School.

Approved the disposal of items no longer serviceable to the district.

Accepted the low bid of $182,997.88 from Luvel Dairy for milk products for the Child Nutrition Department. Bids were received May 22.

Granted permission to Supportive Services to advertise for bids to paint the exterior of Redwood Elementary.

Accepted a bid from Blackburn Motor Company for Drivers Education automobiles. Bids were opened June 13, and Blackburn’s was the only one received.

Approved dress code proposals from Vicksburg Intermediate, Dana Road Elementary and Sherman Avenue Elementary.

Approved that the grading period be changed from six weeks to nine weeks at Vicksburg Intermediate and Warren Central Intermediate.

Approved additional compensation for individuals administering the Mississippi Reading Excellence Grant given to Beechwood Elementary School by the Mississippi Department of Education. The compensation will be funded by the grant.

Approved land improvements and timber sales for the 2001-02 fiscal year on 16th Section land. The improvements and sales total $411,250.

Granted permission for the district to enter into a contract with Jerry Lyons Agency P.A. for sports and extra curricular activities accident-medical insurance. The flat premium is $37,141 for the 2001-02 school year.

Approved a project application that will be submitted to the Mississippi Department of Education for special education funding.

Granted a right-of-way easement to Yazoo Valley Electric Power Association along Youngton Road on 16th Section land.

Approved the transfer of the Culkin ball fields and lagoon from the district to Warren County.

Granted permission for the district to advertise for bids for work on the roofs at Vicksburg High School and Vicksburg Junior High School.

Approved the request of an emergency teaching certificate for Erika January, who will teach eighth grade at Vicksburg Junior High School.

Approved contract personnel to provide services for special education students during the 2001-02 school year.

Accepted the recommendation of certified personnel for the 2001-02 school year.

Approved the change in status of Derrick Reed, a teacher at the Center of Alternative Programs, to the Vocational/Special Populations position at Warren Central High School.

Approved the 2001-02 teacher salary schedules.

Approved additional compensation for Morgan Gates and Doug Branning, assistant principals at Vicksburg High School, who will be adding 22 additional days to their contract.

Agreed to table the discussion on the sale of Halls Ferry Elementary and Culkin Elementary. Trustees plan to assess the two properties and discuss a minimum bid at the July board meeting.
