[07/19/01] A man believed to be a truck driver from Texas was found dead from an apparent stabbing in front of a home in Cedars Estates early Thursday morning, and Vicksburg police were holding a resident of the subdivision for investigation of murder.

Capt. Mark Culbertson, chief of detectives of the Vicksburg Police Department, identified the suspect as Jacqueline Williams, 39, 223 Demby Drive, and said she was being held without bond in the Warren County Jail. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Vicksburg Municipal Court Friday, and Culbertson said bond could be set then.

Culbertson said he could not release the name of the victim because his family had not been notified. However, District Attorney Gil Martin identified the victim as Steve Warren and said he was believed to be in his 30s.

“We believe he is from somewhere in Texas,” Culbertson said.

The original report was made at 3:04 Thursday, and responding officers found the victim in the street bleeding, Culbertson said. “We believe he was a boyfriend of the suspect and they had some type of domestic disturbance,” Culbertson said. “He was stabbed one time in the leg.”

He said investigators believe the kitchen knife thought to have been the weapon used hit the femoral artery, the large blood vessel that supplies blood to the leg.

“He was able to make it from inside the house to his vehicle where he bled to death,” Culbertson said.

Williams was arrested at 223 Demby Drive by the investigative team headed by Sgt. Doug King.

Warren County Deputy Coroner Larry Chisley said the cause of death is being held open pending an autopsy he hopes to schedule later Thursday at Mississippi Mortuary Services in Pearl.

Warren’s body was taken to Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home pending transfer to Pearl.

Chisley also said he was told Warren was a truck driver.
