VESTA S. CARROLL

Vesta S. Carroll died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was 93.

Mrs. Carroll was born in Washington, Ind., and moved to Vicksburg as a child. She was a homemaker for most of her life, and worked as a clerk at the Warren County Tax Collector’s Office for two years. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Mrs. Carroll was a member of the Floral Garden Club and the Association of Retired Federal Employees.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Scott Carroll, and her parents, Abel Thomas and Ollie Pearl Sullivan.

Mrs. Carroll is survived by one daughter, Marjorie Miles of Vicksburg; one sister, Laura Hanisee of Vicksburg; two granddaughters, Lisa Alexander of Camden, Del., and Stacey Hollen of Middletown, Del.; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hansell Bankester, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Fisher-Riles Funeral home from 3 until 5 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 3005 Porters Chapel Road, Vicksburg 39180.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

LOUIS GLEN PEYTON

Louis Glen Peyton died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Crosby Medical Center in Picayune. He was 96.

Mr. Peyton was born and reared in Utica, but lived in Slidell, La., for the last six years. He worked in hotel management with the National Hotel Corporation until his retirement from the Jung Hotel in New Orleans.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Miller Peyton.

He is survived by two daughters, Marguerite P. Sorrels of Slidell, La., and Sylvia P. Pelicano of Metairie, La.; one brother, John Peyton of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Honaker Funeral Homes of Slidell has charge of arrangements.

EUDORA LESLIE JAMES

HAILEY, Idaho Eudora Leslie James died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Blaine Manor in Hailey, Idaho. She was 92.

Mrs. James was born and reared in Evening Shade, Ark. She moved to Vicksburg in 1994. In 1999, she moved to Hailey to live with her daughter. She graduated from Arkansas State University with with a bachelor of music degree and taught music throughout Arkansas from 1922 until 1947. After moving to Tupelo, Mrs. James served as the organist for Harrisburg Baptist church from 1950 until 1994.

Mrs. James was a member of the Altrusa Club, Fortnightly Musicale and the Community Concert Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.K. James.

She is survived by one daughter, Billie Brown of Hailey.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo with the Rev. David Langerfield, associate pastor at Harrisburg Baptist, officiating.

Visitation will be at W. E. Pegues Funeral Home from 5 p.m. Monday until 8 p.m.

JOE LOUIS BOYD SR.

Joe Louis Boyd Sr. died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at University Medical Center in Jackson He was 63.

Mr. Boyd was a truck driver and retired from Interstate Nuclear Services. He was a member of Zion Travelers M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by one son, Joe Louis Byrd Jr. of Vicksburg; and his father, Louis Frederick Boyd of Woodville.

He is survived by his wife, Sammie Boyd of Vicksburg; four sons, Carl Curtis and Louis Frederick Boyd, II, both of Vicksburg, Tommy Curtis of Jackson and Walter Curtis of Channelville, Texas; three daughters, Nancy Lindsay, Jennifer Nealy and Samantha Boyd, all of Vicksburg; his mother, Nancy Lee Boyd of Woodville; and 11 grandchildren.
