UTICA Lottie Clark died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 97.

MATTIE C. COLVIN

TALLULAH Mattie C. Colvin died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at Madison Parish Hospital. She was 79.

Mrs. Colvin was born in Winnsboro, La., and had lived in Tallulah for 25 years. A housewife, she was of the Pentecostal faith.

She is survived by her mother, Emmie Carraway Peavy of Winnsboro; four sons, William S. Cummins of Vicksburg, Jerry L. Cummins of West Monroe, Douglas L. Cummins of Winnsboro and Lee E. Cummins of Bastrop, La.; three daughters, Virginia C. McNease of Tallulah, Ann L. Gowan of Bastrop and Barbara C. Plumley of Collinston, La.; two brothers, Floyd Peavy of West Monroe and Thomas Peavy of Haughton, La.; three sisters, Phyllis Colvin of West Monroe, Shirley Puckett of South Carolina and Alice Banks of Middletown, Va.; a stepson, Roger Colvin of Bastrop; three stepdaughters, Bonnie Kasin of Fargo, N.D., Lisa Cooper of Monroe and LaRee Jones of Greensboro, N.C.; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Henry Carraway Cemetery in Winnsboro with the Rev. Greg Nichols officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home in Tallulah.

Pallbearers will be grandsons James Aswell, Wayne Aswell, John Welch, J.D. Cummins, Scott Cummins and Michael Cummins.

DURWOOD JAMES SR.

Durwood James Sr. died Sunday, Sept. 8., 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 69.

Born in George, Texas, Mr. James had lived in Vicksburg since 1986. He was a self-employed truck driver, a sportsman and of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Daphine R. James of Vicksburg; two sons, Larry James of Vicksburg and Durwood James Jr. of Rosedale; and two sisters, Anita Nichols of Jackson and Vivian Moore of Carthage.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home-Vicksburg with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Lampkin, Danny Prince, Tommy “Bubba” Lampkin, Louis Miller, David Fowler and Jay Prince.

KENNETH E. GALTNEY

Kenneth E. “Lit Buddy” Galtney died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 73.

Mr. Galtney was a self-employed truck driver and member of Ebenezer M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Caleb Galtney and Cora A. Galtney; a son, Charles Tillman; and a brother, Caleb Galtney Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth E. Galtney of Chicago and Lee Melvin Coleman of Saginaw, Mich.; six daughters, Brenda Yarborough of Chicago, Clarice Brown of Atlanta, Emma Somlar of Bloomington, Ill., Mary Galtney, Cora White and Carolyn Butler, all of Vicksburg; one sister, Emma Smith of Red Lick; and 17 grandchildren and friends and relatives including two aunts, Mary Taylor of Vicksburg and Olivia Pearl Smith of Port Gibson.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of the arrangements.

HENRY CHARLES MAJOR

Services for Henry Charles Major will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Robbins Funeral Home with the Rev. James Buck officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be all day Tuesday in the funeral home chapel and on Wednesday until the hour of service.

Mr. Major died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 77.

He was a native of Jonesville, La. A veteran of the Army, he served in World War II. He retired in 1981 as a pipefitter for the Vicksburg Water and Gas Department after 35 years of service. He was a member of Sunshine Lodge No. 99, and he was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Green Major; four sons, Charles Donnell Major, Tony Earl Major and Darren Maurice Major, all of Vicksburg, and Terry Lorenzo Major of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Angela Denise Hampton of Port Gibson and Debra Ann Carmichael of Orlando; and seven grandchildren and other relatives.

EVELYN MAXWELL

DELHI Services for Evelyn Maxwell will be today at 2 p.m. at Lamar Baptist Church in Delhi with David Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Crowville Masonic Cemetery in Crowville, La., under the direction of Cox Funeral Homes. Visitation will be at the church today until the time of service.

Miss Maxwell died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi. She was 77.

She was born in Franklin Parish, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kirby Maxwell and Susan Tressie Jones Maxwell; two brothers, Alfred Maxwell and Terry Maxwell; and a sister, Mildred Deggans.

Survivors include four brothers, Horace Maxwell of Delhi, J.L. Maxwell of Bastrop, Alcus Maxwell of Tallulah and Sheldon Maxwell of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
