JESSIE GRAYSON SR.

FAYETTE Jessie Grayson Sr. died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Natchez Regional Hospital. He was 60.

Mr. Grayson was born in Jefferson County and was a member of the Church of Christ in Roxie. He retired as a laborer from Harrison Sawmill and was a former truck driver. He was a Mason and member of Mount Valley Lodge No. 6.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommie Lee Grayson and Minnie Davis; two sisters; and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Frye Grayson of Fayette; three sons, Jessie Grayson Jr. and Londell Grayson, both of Fayette, and Arthur Lee Grayson of Centreville; five daughters, Melissa Grayson Norton, Diane Grayson Herrington, Betty Earl and Clara Banks, all of Fayette, and Risa Banks of Hermanville; an adopted daughter, Sharon Denise Grayson of Fayette; three brothers, Authur Davis of Natchez, James Grayson of Lorman and Willie Davis of Arizona; three sisters, Bessie Harrid of Lorman, Betty Davis of California and Magline Johnson of New Jersey; 24 grandchildren; and friends and other relatives, including Hinde Brown and Jackie Selmon, both of Fayette.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Issac Tenner officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 8 tonight at Rollins Chapel in Fayette.

SOPHRONIA McGLOSTER

Services for Sophronia “Sofie” McGloster will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church with the Rev. Douglas Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Mrs. McGloster died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at her home. She was 76.

A graduate of Magnolia High School, Mrs. McGloster was retired from the Warren County Department of Health. She was a member of Greater Mount Olive M.B. Church, where she had served as president of the choir and was in the Beautifying Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Sofronia Remsey; four sisters, Amanda Nickolson, Priscilla Joyce, Katie Kelly and Alberta Remsey; and two brothers, Millard Remsey and Willie Remsey.

Survivors include her husband, George McGloster of Vicksburg; one son, Lloyd Yelder of Vicksburg; a sister, Essie Yelder of Detroit; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Patricia Yelder of Anchorage, Alaska, and members of the Davis, Kelly and Berry families of Vicksburg.

MARGARET DELORES SCOTT

Margaret Delores Scott died today, Oct. 25, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 79.

Mrs. Scott was a Vicksburg resident and a member of Clover Valley M.B. Church where she was on the Mother Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Scott Sr.; and a brother, Emmitt Collins.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Scott Jr. of Minneapolis, Minn., and Robert Scott and Timothy Scott, both of Vicksburg; three daughters, Jan Scott-McDonald of Minneapolis, Trina Scott-Turner of Vicksburg and Sherry Taylor of Atlanta; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

MILDRED SHOTT

CARY Mildred “Monk” Shott died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Grenada Lake Medical Center. She was 83.

Mrs. Shott lived in Sharkey County for more than 50 years and had been a Grenada resident for the past two years. She retired as a dispatcher for the Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department.

She is survived by three daughters, Caroline Hux of Cherokee, N.C., Danne Brown of Sunflower, Miss., and Dianne Dawson of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Elizabeth Hill of Madison; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cary United Methodist Church with the Revs. Eric and Lisa Pridmore officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Billy Bobbs, Randy Darden, Donald Harris, William Moore, David Powers, Charles Weissinger, Bryan Lee and Robert “Bo” Lee.

PAUL J. WILLIAMS

NEWELLTON Paul J. Williams died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at LSU Medical Center in Monroe, La. He was 55.

A farmer, Mr. Williams was a resident of Tensas Parish and a member of the Masonic Lodge and Flowers Landing Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Bob and Clarice Williams of Newellton; two sons, Robby Williams and Spencer Williams, both of Newellton; a brother, Darrell Williams of Jackson; a sister, Alice McVay of St. Joseph; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at United Pentecostal Church in Newellton with the Rev. David McKeithen officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Pallbearers will be Larry Foster, Tommy Kelly, Amos McDaniel, Hardy Palmer, Malcolm McVay and Howard Morgan.

RICHARD L. HOUZAH

ROLLING FORK Richard L. Houzah died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 47.

Mr. Houzah was a resident of Rolling Fork.

He is survived by his mother, Alberta Houzah Washington of Rolling Fork; his wife, Leaflora Houzah of Rolling Fork; three sons, Richard Murdock of Cary, Albert Hall of Memphis and Andrew Hall of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three daughters, Angela Williams of Murfreesboro and Barbara Bailey and Betty Hall, both of Rolling Fork; three brothers, Willie Houzah of Chicago, Lonnie Franklin of Rolling Fork and Willie Hanes of Utica; 12 sisters, Ida Dickerson and Shirley Barksdale, both of Chicago, Jimmy Brownlee and Savannah Houzah, both of West Memphis, Ark., Ethel Kemp, Mattie L. Wheatly, Eula McIntire and Pecarey Arnolds, all of Indianapolis, and Adrina Mooreland, Rosie Jones, Ruth Williams and Martha Morris, all of Rolling Fork; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion M.B. Church in Cary. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery in Egremont under the direction of Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
