W.T. GRIFFING

W.T. “Bill” Griffing died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 91.

Mr. Griffing was born in Bolton and had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1945. He was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad and was retired from the Mississippi Valley Portland Cement Company. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Mr. Griffing was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Daisy Griffing; four sisters; and five brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Effle Lee Griffing of Vicksburg; three sons, Phil Griffing, Tom Griffing and Steve Griffing, all of Vicksburg; one sister, Virginia Hopson of Pearl; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2 until 5 today at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Howard Smith and Frank Lescallette officiating. A burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park in Vicksburg.

Pallbearers will be Jim Stevens, Joe Crow, Ted Potter, Jimmy Gray, Binkly Purvis and Glenn Waters.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Cannon, Max Barnette, Dr. Walter Johnston, Rev. Paul O. Lee and the men’s Sunday school class of Trinity Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church’s building fund or Baptist Children’s Village in Jackson.

CECIL H. CROSBY

Cecil H. Crosby died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 94.

Mr. Crosby was born in Annapolis, Nova Scotia, and had lived in Vicksburg since 1927. He owned and operated C&C Welding Company until he retired. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae Crosby of Vicksburg; a son, Thomas Crosby of Canton, Texas; two daughters, Cecile Crockrell and Ann Cook, both of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Sibley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be G.T. “Red” Dowdy, George Culkin, Bill Collins, Vean Leist, Richard George and Junius Williams.
