MELVIN JONES SR.

LAKE PROVIDENCE Melvin Jones Sr. died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Lake Providence Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Center. He was 93.

Mr. Jones was a resident of Lake Providence, La.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Jones; a son, J.W. Jones; two daughters, Marie Jones and Melva “Sissie” Hosey; and his parents, Jasper and Maggie Jones.

Survivors include a son, Melvin Jones Jr. of Oak Grove, La.; six daughters, Arlene Cummings of Lake Providence, Madeline Marsh of Oak Grove, Maxine Long of Bossier City, La., Melba Hamous of Dallas, Texas, Charlotte Grabert of Transylvania, La., and Betty Ruth Ermis of Humble, Texas; 30 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Asbell officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery in Lake Providence.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons.

MARY OXNETT TOUGH

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Mary Oxnett Tough died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at The Episcopal Church Home in Louisville, Ky. She was 90.

A native of Swalwell England, Mrs. Tough immigrated in 1948. She lived in Louisville, Ky., and was a former resident of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Tough.

Survivors include a son, Jeremy H. Tough of Collins, Miss.; a daughter, Judith M. Lawson of Louisville; two grandchildren, Leslie S. Tinsley and Stephen A. Lawson; and two great-grandchildren, Adrianna C. Vaughn and Ashley N. Lawson.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today at St. Luke’s Chapel of The Episcopal Church in Louisville. Burial will follow in Heber Springs, Ark., under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home in Louisville.

Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church in Collins.

LEON WILLIAMS JR.

Leon “Trainer” Williams Jr. died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 61.

Mr. Williams was a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic High School and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran, serving in Berlin. He was employed by Anderson-Tully and was a member of Tyner-Ford Post No. 213.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Williams Sr. and Rosie Lee Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Helena Stewart Williams of Vicksburg; five sons, Marvin Williams and Stacy Williams, both of Atlanta, Ga., Leon Williams III and Gary Williams, both of Vicksburg, and Darrell Williams of New Orleans; two daughters, Pamela Williams and Tracey Lane, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Joseph Williams of Vicksburg; 20 grandchildren; and other relatives, including the Price and Sims families of Vicksburg.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
