[1/8/03]St. Aloysius coach Paul Hayden wouldn’t go as far as criticizing the officials during the Flashes’ 70-52 loss to the Mississippi School for the Deaf.

He let the stat sheet talk for itself.

MSD shot 32 second-half free throws to St. Al’s 3 and outshot the Flashes from the line 44-8 for the game.

“We went to the free-throw line 3 times in the second half and they went 32. I’ll just say that,” Hayden said.

Drew Mazzanti paced St. Al with 14 points and Anthony Rector scored 11 in the loss. Vicksburg native Ro’Derrick Brown scored 10 for MSD.

The Flashes led 24-23 at halftime, but were outscored 23-8 in the third quarter and never recovered.

“We didn’t play well at all,” Hayden said. “We got outhustled all night.”

Playing without four players because of various reasons, Warren Central fell to former WC 9th-grade coach Kelvin Smith and Neshoba Central.

Dewayne Washington paced the Vikings (13-5) with 21 points, while Daryl Harper and Ronnie Jones each scored 10.

One player missed the game because of knee surgery, one with the flu and two because of missing practice over the holidays.
