Keystone Ministries volunteer Houston Foster pressure-washes the outside of the former Mississippi Hardware building at 2400 Washington St. Tuesday. Keystone director James Hartley said the ministry will repaint the outside, repair the roof and renovate part of the interior of the building built around 1906 before opening a thrift store and a cafe next door, at 2402 Washington St. Hartley said he hopes to use the profits from the cafe and the thrift shop to further develop the property. “The building needs a lot of work, but it’s pretty sound,” he said. Other plans include creating classrooms to teach trades to its volunteers. (C. Todd ShermanThe Vicksburg Post)
