Infants Rankin

The twin infant sons of Wayne Freeman and Patricia A. Rankin, both of Vicksburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003.
In addition to their parents, they are survived by a brother, Devonte Rankin of Vicksburg; two sisters, Patrice Shelton and Kashonda Shelton, both of Vicksburg; maternal grandparents, Judy Rankin of Columbia, La., and Edward Vaughn of Berkeley, Calif.; and uncles, aunts and cousins.
Services were at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Julia Shelton
Julia Shelton died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 97.
Mrs. Shelton was a domestic worker and a member of Mount Givens Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Perkins Eastman and William Perkins; five brothers, Ruben Braxton, Richard Braxton, Johnny Eastman, Robert Eastman and Roger Perkins; and a son, Johnson Shelton.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Shelton of Vicksburg; two daughters, Chaney Peterson and Katie Gray, both of Vicksburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives including, the Scott, Shelton and Reagan families of Vicksburg.
Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
Jeanette B. Smith
Jeanette B. Smith died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at her home. She was 75.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Edwards, graduating from Edwards High School and Phillips Business College. She retired as bookkeeper from Genuine Auto Parts Co.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a number of civic organizations.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Donald Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Barley Smith of Vicksburg; a daughter, Margaret S. Richmond of Vicksburg; one brother, Herbert Butts of Raymond; two sisters, Ann Daniels of Memphis and Carolyn Woodman of Petal; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home and from 2:30 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Richard Blush, Bill Collins, Jimmy Veazey, Marty Collins, Junius Williams and Todd Downey.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Mauck, Bill Downey, Harold Simpson and deacons of Calvary Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 2878 Old Highway 27, 39180.
Thomas Smith Sr.
Services for Thomas Smith Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 52.
Mr. Smith was born in the Church Hill community in Jefferson County.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Smith Jr., and his maternal grandparents, Lucille Wide and Cleve Hampton.
He is survived by a daughter, Amanda Smith of Ferriday, La.; his mother, Verda Lee Hampton Smith of Vicksburg; his father, Clarence Smith of New Orleans; six brothers, Albert Smith, Percy Smith and David Smith, all of Vicksburg, Robert Lee Smith of Dallas, Roosevelt Smith of Gonzales, La., and James Smith of Lilburn, Ga.; four sisters, Linda Smith, Mary Jackson and Edna Ross, all of Vicksburg, and Shirley Tyler of Norcross, Ga.; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including the Banks, Kaiser and Stewart families and Zylene Bell of Vicksburg.
Mary E. Taylor
Services for Mary E. “Mama Mary” Taylor will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Travis Chapel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Horace McKay officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
Mrs. Taylor died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 82.
A retired cosmetologist, Mrs. Taylor was a former teacher’s aide at Kings Head Start Center. She was born in Lorman.
She was a member of Travis Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Adult Choir, Stewardess Board and Willing Workers Club. She was a member of the Travis Chapel Burial Society. She was a member of Excelsior Chapter No. 349 Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Taylor; her father, Samuel Green Jr.; her mother, Lurline Woods Underwood; her paternal grandparents, Samuel Green Sr. and Emline Noble Green; and her maternal grandparents, Caroline and Squire Lee Woods.
Survivors include four daughters, Ester Frazier of St. Louis, Mo., Jessie Mae Sims of Dolton, Ill., and Sylvia Taylor James and Harriette Daily, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Curtis Green of Mobile, Ala., and Charles Cooper of Tuskegee, Ala.; and other relatives, including Berteal Erves Rogers and Josephine Holmus.
