Harry R. Andress Jr.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Harry R. Andress Jr., died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003. He was 84.

Mr. Andress was born in St. Louis, Mo. and lived in Birmingham. He attended high school in Vicksburg and graduated from Mississippi State University in mechanical engineering. Mr. Andress was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and served in the Navy as a lieutenant in World War II and the Korean War. He was a Distinguished Engineering Fellow of the Mississippi State University College of Engineering, a life member of the Society of American Military Engineers, an associate member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, a recipient of Citation of Meritorious Civilian Service to the Ordnance Department of the Army during World War II, founder of Andress Engineering and Associates and co-founder of Big Valley Towing Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Larrayne H. Andress of Birmingham; a daughter, Larra Andress of Birmingham; a son, Harry R. Andress III of Birmingham; and two sisters, Elizabeth Ackerman of Zellwood, Fla., and Ruth Page of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Services for Mr. Andress were Feb. 6 in Pelham, Ala., and burial was at Southern Heritage Cemetery. Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Mattye Lee Campbell

CHOUDRANT, La. Services for Mattye Lee Campbell will be at 3 p.m. today at the Alabama Presbyterian Church in Sibley Community, La., with the Rev. Rolly Walker and Dr. Marshall Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at the Camp Alabama Church Cemetery in Choudrant, La.

Mrs. Campbell died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, La. She was 93.

Mrs. Campbell moved with her family to the Sibley Community in Lincoln Parish at age 2. She was a graduate of Downsville High School and received a bachelor’s in education from Louisiana Tech University and a master’s in education from Louisiana State University. She taught for 30 years at Choudrant and Oak Grove high schools.

Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Houston Campbell; her mother and father, Joseph Hugh and Mattie Donald; and two sisters, Ellye Donald Brown and Huell Donald Baker.

Survivors include a nephew, Dr. Steven Donald of West Monroe, La.; two nieces, Marcia D. Snodgrass of San Antonio and Jane D. O’Donnell of Alexandria, La.; and three sisters-in-law, Betty B. Donald of West Monroe, Florence B. Donald of Choudrant and Frances D. Wall of Alexandria.

Pallbearers will be Jimmie Williams, Willie Earl Pesnell, Patrick Snodgrass, Steven M. Donald, Dr. D. J. Donald and Dr. Lance Donald.

Cox Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Bill W. Chambers

Bill W. Chambers of Vicksburg died at his home Friday, Feb. 21, 2003. He was 53.

His survivors include a son, Bryan Chambers of California; a daughter, Portia Chambers of California; his mother, Laura B. Chambers of Vicksburg; his father, John B. Chambers Sr. of Los Angeles; three sisters, Martha C. Walker and Shirley A. Chambers, both of Vicksburg, and Jennie C. Jones of Jackson; four brothers, John B. Chambers Jr. of Inglewood, Calif., Eugene Chambers and Freddie L. Chambers, both of Pearl, and Melvin D. Chambers of Jackson; an aunt, Annie Armstrong of Vicksburg; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including the Armstrong and Nash families.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Nora Curry McCall

PATTISON Frances Nora Curry McCall died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at her home in Jacksonville, Fla. She was 55.

Services will be today at Ashland Missionary Baptist Church in Port Gibson at 2 p.m. Visitation will be at Rollins Funeral Home Chapel in Port Gibson today from noon to 2 p.m. Burial will be at Ashland Cemetery in Port Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Tom Curry.

Mrs. McCall is survived by two sons, Tom Curry and Eric Williams, both of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Erica Curry, Eunicia Curry and Dominque Curry, all of Jacksonville; her mother, Alice Mae Bates Curry of Port Gibson; six brothers, Dan Curry, James Curry and Jerald Curry, all of Pattison, J.C. Curry of Fayette, Jimmie Curry of Hermanville and John Curry of Jackson; one sister, Tommie McNeil of Jacksonville; her stepmother, Ethel Mae Bates-Curry of Port Gibson; and other father and mother-in-law Harold and Barbara Freeman of Jacksonville, and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
