Effie Harps

Services for Effie Harps will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Givens M.B. Church with the Rev. Melvin Bolden officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.
Visitation will be today at the funeral home and from noon until the service Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. Harps died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at River Region West. She was 80.
A native of Yokena, Mrs. Harps was a resident of Vicksburg. She was a homemaker, a member of Mount Givens M.B. Church and the St. James Burial Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius Harps; two daughters; six sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include four sons, Freddie Harps and Claude Harps, both of Philadelphia, Penn., Robert Harps of Chicago and George Harps of Manassas, Va.; three daughters, Cornelia L. Harps Rodgers of Gary, Ind., Vivian Lee Harps Wells of New Orleans and Laeeqa Ahmad of Waukegan, Ill.; a sister, Maude Drake of Vicksburg; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Ernest Alvin Perry
MONROE Ernest Alvin Perry died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Rayville. He was 88.
Mr. Perry was born in Warden, La., and lived for a number of years in Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Hazel Perry, and his parents, Mary Virginia Bird Perry and William Walter Perry.
He is survived by two sons, Shelby Perry and Buford Perry, both of Lake Providence; two daughters, Stella Fitts and Ruby Benefield, both of Monroe; and nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elmwood Baptist Church in Lake Providence with the Revs. Ken Evans and Gerald Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence.
Pallbearers will be Lamar Perry, Jake Perry, Dwayne Wilson, Zach Payne, Josh Payne and Chase Snyder.
Estelena Taylor Scott
EDWARDS Services for Estelena Taylor Scott were at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Zion Traveler M.B. Church in Utica with the Rev. Willie L. Lewis, pastor, officiating.
Ms. Scott, a resident of Edwards, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003. She was 89.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gideon and Virginia Stewart Taylor; a brother, John Taylor; three sisters, Evageline Taylor Bowman, Gideon Taylor Stamps and Emma Taylor Erves; and Peter Stewart Jr. and Angeline “Momma Angie” Stewart.
Survivors include three sons, Steve Scott III of Gardena, Calif., Fred Scott of Hawthorne, Calif., and Seymour Scott of Los Angeles; four daughters, Willena Carter, Bertha Brown and Florence Scott, all of Los Angeles, and Bernice Lofton of Inglewood, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Audrey Crawford of Utica; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Carl Erves, Percy Erves Jr., Donald Erves, Ellis Burks, Larry Erves, Alonzo Erves, Alonza Burks and Gregory Erves.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Peter Stewart, LaMonte Lofton, Dwayne Childs, Edward Carter Jr., Kenneth Lofton, Jessie Burns, Joseph Brown and Frederick Scott.
