Eagles explode to beat Briarfield

[4/16/03]Porters Chapel Academy exploded for 12 runs in the last two innings Tuesday to break a 1-1 tie and beat Briarfield, 13-1.

Humphrey Barlow went 3-for-4 with a double, homer, and two RBIs for PCA (21-2, 12-0 Conference 5-A), Aaron Curry was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Chase Towne went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, three of them on a bases-loaded double to cap a seven-run rally in the top of the sixth inning. Josh Rush also had a double for the Eagles.

Joseph Ivey allowed four hits, one unearned run, and struck out nine to get the win and improve to 6-0. Kristopher Shirey started and pitched three scoreless innings for Briarfield, but got a no-decision.

PCA can clinch its third straight conference title on Friday when it hosts Tallulah Academy at 6 p.m.
