Alvin Monroe Ray
ROLLING FORK Alvin Monroe Ray died Monday, May 12, 2003, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. He was 66.
A retired farmer, Mr. Ray was born in Indianola and was a resident of Leland for a number of years before moving to Rolling Fork two years ago. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Ray, and three sons, Kodie Ray, Tommy Ray and Rickey Ray.
Survivors include eight sons, Mickey Ray and Jamie Ray, both of Gunnison, Tracy Ray and Adam Ray, both of Doddsville, Alvin Junior Ray of Slaughter, Roger Ray of Tupelo, Michael Ray of Shelby and Stevie Ray of Rome; five daughters, Joann Salazar of Gunnison, Debbie Ray of Blaine, Mary Elhridge of Rolling Fork, Nancy Jones of Slaughter and Reta Zeron of Doddsville; a sister, Dora Light of Itta Bena; a half brother, Jimmy Burnett of Clarksdale; and 42 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Mike Summers officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork.
Elias Winfield Jr.
Elias Winfield Jr. died Monday, May 12, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 91.
Mr. Winfield was born in Union Church and was retired from Anderson-Tully Lumber Mill. He was a member of New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Rose Mary Brown Winfield and Maude Winfield; his parents, Elias Winfield Sr. and Nellie Gibson Winfield; a brother, Fred Winfield; and a son, James E. Winfield Sr.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Dr. Linda E. Winfield of Vicksburg; two brothers, Nathan Winfield of Port Gibson and Theodore Winfield of Newport News, Va.; one sister, Jessie B. Hall of Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren, James E. Winfield Jr. of Austin, Texas, Paul E. Winfield of Vicksburg and Michael E. Winfield of Clinton; and four great-grandchildren.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
