[7/17/03]Beginning Friday, Warren countians will be able to view close-up maps showing the boundaries of each voting precinct following redistricting changes, supervisors president Richard George said.

The maps, one for each of the county’s 22 precincts, will be on display at the Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library, in the Board of Supervisors building and in the circuit clerk’s office on the second floor of the county courthouse.

This year’s elections begin with party primaries Aug. 5. The general election is set for Nov. 4.

Since the 1999 elections for the same offices, the boundaries of each of the county’s five supervisor districts, three justice court districts and all legislative districts have changed.

Each supervisor district is divided into precincts, and many precinct boundaries have also changed. About 2,500 people who voted at one polling place in the 1999 election have been assigned to another. They will receive notification by mail, to be sent next week, deputy circuit clerk Shelly Ashley-Palmertree said.

Elections for judges and constables were held last year, but the county’s redistricting plans did not receive federal approval in time to be used for them.

Population shifts between censuses, the most recent of which was held in 2000, necessitated the redistricting.

Also beginning with August primaries, the locations of three county polling places have changed, though they will continue to be called by the same names. All are in supervisor District 5.

Moose Lodge has moved to Berachah Church, 2918 Fisher Ferry Road. It was at the Moose Lodge on Fisher Ferry Road.

Tingleville has moved to The Church of God, 5598 Gibson Road. It was at Clover Valley M.B. Church on Mississippi 27.

YMCA has moved to Porters Chapel United Methodist Church, 200 Porters Chapel Road. It was at the Raworth YMCA on Halls Ferry Road.

The precinct maps are 3-feet square. The views they show are enlarged more than 3 1/2 times from that of a regular-sized county wall map.

The maps show streets and roads, most with labels. All labels are in large type.
