John Graham Armstrong Jr.
DELHI, La. John Graham Armstrong Jr. died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in Shreveport, La. He was 62.
A retired truck driver, Mr. Armstrong was a veteran of the Air Force. He was a Delhi resident.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Graham Armstrong Sr. and Mary Lucille Calhoun Armstrong, and a great-grandchild, Brent James Doiron III.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Steele Armstrong of Delhi; two daughters, Cheryl Denise Cripps of Calhoun, La., and Mary Kathryn Koehler of West Monroe; one son, Donald Graham Armstrong of West Monroe; three sisters, Nettie Sue Armstrong Reynolds of Lake City, Fla., and Joan Rutledge and Sara Cooper, both of Garland, Texas; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harmony Baptist Church in Delhi with the Revs. Eddie Fuller and Willie Cripps officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Faith Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Loftin, Allen Ogden, Buster Hammons, Woodie Williams, Cecil Viola and Danny Russell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Frank B. Jones, Billy Stanton, Jack Window and Ray Miller.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the church.
Joel Taylor Craft
OAK GROVE Joel Taylor Craft died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. He was 83.
Born in Forest, La., Mr. Craft was a resident of Oak Grove.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Mae McClendon Craft; a sister, Dorthy LaForge; and his parents, Bessie and Robert Clyde Craft.
He is survived by two daughters, Jo Ann Pickett of Terry, La., and Kathryn Braswell of Oak Grove; a son, Robert “Buddy” Craft of Monroe; one sister, Shirley Smathers of Tampa, Fla.; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kilbourne Baptist Church with the Revs. Bernard Duchesne and Mike Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Kilbourne Cemetery.
Visitation will be until 9 tonight at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove.
Pallbearers will be Freddie Leckie, Gary Bedenbender, Jim Sowell, Bill Stover, Eric Brown and John Critelli.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Kilbourne Baptist Church men’s adult Sunday school class and Eddie Allen.
Charlie Gaines Jr.
Services for Charlie “Junior” Gaines Jr. will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Burks officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Gaines died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 54.
Mr. Gaines was a cement worker at Waterways Experiment Station.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Gaines Sr.; a brother, Willie Lee Gaines; his maternal grandparents, Frances and Tom Lewis; and his paternal grandparents, Ella and Willie Gaines.
He is survived by his mother, Estella Mae Lewis Brown of Vicksburg; two brothers, Sun Gaines and Johnny Gaines, both of Vicksburg; six sisters, Flora Lee Parker and Robbie Louise Carson, both of Vicksburg, Mary L. Lee of Tunica, Lillie Mae Johnson of Texas, Rosie Mae White of Bronx, N.Y., and Essie D. Golden of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vera Holliday Hatcher
RIPLEY, Miss. Vera Holliday Hatcher died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. She was 92.
A native of Ripley, Miss., Mrs. Hatcher was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean Barksdale of Brookhaven and Louise Stewart of Vicksburg; five sons, Jimmie Hatcher of Memphis, Bobby Hatcher of Brookhaven, Freddy Hatcher and Stacy Hatcher, both of Port Gibson, and Lewis Hatcher of Rolling Fork; a sister, Virginia Holliday Hodges of Ripley; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ripley Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Henry Johnson Jr.
Services for Henry “Buck” Johnson Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Williams Funeral Service.
Mr. Johnson died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, in Nashville. He was 59.
Mr. Johnson was a resident of Cleveland, Ohio, where he was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Johnson and Henry Johnson Sr., and a sister, Connie Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Roberts Johnson of Cleveland; two sons, Christopher Johnson of Cleveland and Larry Johnson of Rolling Fork; two daughters, LaWanda Johnson and Cherylle Johnson, both of Cleveland; three brothers, Linwood Johnson and Danny Johnson, both of Nashville, and Charles V. Johnson of Texas; four sisters, Linda James and Henrene Johnson, both of Nashville, Essie Edwards of Vicksburg and Gladys Johnson of Atlanta; one grandchild; and other relatives and friends.
