[12/4/03]If Vicksburg High wants to repeat as Warren Central Classic champions, it will have a tough road.
The Missy Gators (7-2) open the two-day girls tournament today at 4:30 against No. 8 Provine, a team that handed VHS one of its two losses this season.
“You’re just going to have to come with it for all 32 minutes against Provine, because they’re not going to let up the whole game,” Coleman said. “If you have a bad minute or two, they’re liable to run off 14 or 15 points in that minute or two.
“You just have to come ready to play all 32 minutes, and I believe we will.”
Warren Central’s girls will open the tournament tonight at 7:30 against Jim Hill.
“Provine and Vicksburg are the teams to beat,” Warren Central girls coach Donny Fuller said. “I don’t know if we’ll even make it past Jim Hill.”
The boys tournament will take on a different look this year because a fourth team could not be found to fill the brackets.
Provine’s girls were a late addition, but the top-ranked Provine boys had a scheduling conflict and could not come.
The boys will run a round-robin, three-day even culminating in a Vicksburg-Warren Central matchup on Saturday at noon.
All games will be played at Warren Central and admission is $4 per person.
