James E. McMullin

James E. “Mac” McMullin died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 78.

Born in Indianola, Mr. McMullin was the son of James Talmadge McMullin and Ruby Viatress McBride. He lived in Greenwood and, in 1941, moved to Jackson, where he graduated from Central High School.

He joined the Air Force and served in World War II. He moved with his wife to Vicksburg in 1949. He worked for Cotton’s Holsum Bread Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1983. He worked as daytime manager for Maxwell’s Restaurant for six years.

First elected in 1992, Mr. McMullin served three terms as Warren County election commissioner. He served on the Legislative Committee of Election Commissioners for the state. He was a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church and was a Shriner of the Wahabi Temple in Jackson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellen McMullin Johnson and Margaret Evelyn McMullin.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Johnnie Beasley McMullin; two daughters, Jonette McMullin Maxwell Jenkins of Madison and Audrey Sue Lashbrooke Tyson of Hazlehurst; a brother, Joe Willie McMullin of Jackson; and three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Riles Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Willie G. Qualls Sr.

Services for Willie G. Qualls Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy Brown Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Qualls died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his home. He was 54.

Mr. Qualls was born in Tutwiler and lived in Vicksburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, McKinley Sr. and Essie Mae Ross Qualls.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Early Qualls of Vicksburg; four sons, Willie G. Qualls Jr., Andrew Early, Robert Early and Leroy Early, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Mary Qualls Harris and Courtney Denise Qualls, both of Vicksburg; eight brothers, McKinley Qualls Jr., Charles Qualls, John L. Qualls, Robert Qualls, Jerry Qualls, Sammy Brown and Oscar Qualls, all of Vicksburg, and Roosevelt Qualls of Clarksdale; nine sisters, Ora Lee Jackson, Shirley Vample, Lena Mae Qualls, Luler Qualls, Irene Nelson, Minnie Mae Johnson and Letha Mae Trisby, all of Vicksburg, Annie Bell Sylvester of Valley Park and Mary Ann Hamlin of Starkville; 18 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Lee Williams

Services for Dorothy Lee Williams will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bonner-Campbell College in Edwards with the Rev. Elzie O’Neal officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Moriah M.B. Church Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Williams died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 68.

A resident of Vicksburg, she was a nurse’s aide at the former Hinds General Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Oneill Williams Sr. of Edwards; three daughters, Betty W. Johns and Onetta W. Samuel, both of Jackson, and Bonita Williams of Edwards; and four sons, Oneill Williams Jr. of California and Jerry Williams, Christopher Williams and Derrick Williams, all of Edwards.
