[2/14/04]Cookie Johnson scored a game-high 15 points to lead Warren Central to a 70-53 victory over Jefferson County in the final game of the regular season.
The Lady Vikes (19-7) will open the Division 6-5A Tournament on Tuesday against Natchez at 7 p.m. A victory on Tuesday would earn WC a spot in the Class 5A state playoffs.
Tranyce Peoples added 14 points and Ebon Williams scored 11 for the Lady Vikes, who led the entire game.
“We never could really put it away,” said WC coach Donny Fuller. “We were able to play a lot of people and changed around some combinations of who was on the floor at one time.”
Warren Central dressed 16 players and each one of them played, Fuller said.
The Lady Vikes led 33-23 at the half before Jefferson County cut the lead to seven at the end of the third quarter. A 23-point outburst in the fourth quarter allowed WC to pull away.
