Nola Warner Holmes
Nola Warner Holmes died today, July 27, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 87.
A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Holmes was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Elite Social and Civic Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Holmes; her parents, Louis and Olivia Green Warner; a brother, C.B. Warner; and three sisters, Verla Bonds, Odessa Ross and Delilah Fletcher.
Survivors include a brother, Louis Warner Jr. of Port Gibson; and a nephew, William Ross of Memphis.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Ewell Wendell Lackey
MENA, Ark. Ewell Wendell Lackey died Friday, July 23, 2004, in Mena, Ark. He was 85.
Mr. Lackey was born in Rocky, Ark., and was a resident of Mena. He worked as a painter, roofer and carpenter for more than 50 years and was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Faye Kirby and Stella Fendley; his parents, Oscar and Lydia McGee Lackey; five brothers, Delmas Lackey, Cecil Lackey, Jesse Lackey, Chester Lackey and Dee Lackey; and a grandson, Stanley Scott Lackey.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Burks of Mena; two sons, Jerry Lackey of Mena and Bobby Lackey of Hot Springs, Ark.; a brother, Vernon Lackey of Vicksburg; three sisters, Cleo Ziewitz of Mena and Pauline Lear and Juanita Moore, both of Van Buren, Ark.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Service in Mena with Niles White officiating. Burial followed at Rocky Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steven Lackey, Jeremy Lackey, Aaron Burks, Chaise Burks, Mike Moore, Andrew Edwards and Shane Burks.
Norma Jean Leach
Norma Jean Leach died Monday, July 26, 2004, at her home. She was 49.
A lifelong resident of the Oak Ridge community, Mrs. Leach had been a school bus driver for the past five years. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald Rushing and Ruby Taylor.
Survivors include her husband, George Leach of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rhonda Day and Janet Taylor, both of Vicksburg; a son, Gerald Leach of Vicksburg; two sisters, Mary Ellen Henry and Geraldine Bufkin, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Ronnie O’Quinn and Lundy Traylor, both of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Ronnie O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be James Wavrin, Bobby Leach, Billy Leach, J.L. Hall, Chris Henry and Mackey Taylor.
John Hamilton McCaskill
INDIANOLA John Hamilton McCaskill died Monday, July 26, 2004, at South Sunflower County Hospital. He was 70.
Born in Vicksburg, Mr. McCaskill had been a resident of Indianola since 1973. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a masters degree in agriculture in 1956. He was a Navy veteran. He worked for the MSU Cooperative Extension Service and retired in 1989 as the Sunflower County Agent after 30 years of service. He was a former chairman of the board of trustees at First United Methodist Church and was a member of the administrative board.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Dykes McCaskill of Indianola; three sons, Lynn McCaskill of Beaufort, S.C., Alan McCaskill of Indianola and Brian McCaskill of Madison; his mother, Bertha McDade McCaskill of Vicksburg; a brother, Jimmy McCaskill of Vicksburg; a sister, Betty McCaskill Bancroft of Memphis; three granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Indianola. Burial will follow at Indianola City Cemetery under the direction of Card Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society or Indianola Academy.
Irma Dee Peery
Irma Dee Peery died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 83.
A native of Collins, Mrs. Peery was a resident of Vicksburg. She was a homemaker and a member of Santee Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda McNease of Vicksburg; and a grandson, Ryan McNease of Vicksburg.
Services were at 10 a.m. today at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home in Prentiss. Burial followed at Lone Star Cemetery. Riles Funeral Home handled local arrangements.
