Samuel R. Branan Sr.

VERO BEACH, Fla. Samuel R. Branan Sr. died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005. He was 79.

A resident of Vero Beach, Fla., Mr. Branan worked for Eastern Airlines for 37 years.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances Branan of Vero Beach; three sons, Samuel R. Branan Jr. of Seneca, S.C., Michael T. Branan of Kissimmee, Fla., and Ron Branan of Vicksburg; a daughter, Mary Frances Womack of Vero Beach; one sister, Sally Norton of Tom’s River, N.J.; and 10 grand-children

A memorial service will be Monday in Vero Beach.

Glen P. Johnson

Glen P. Johnson died today, Jan. 12, 2005, at Belmont Gardens. He was 91.

Born in Enid, Okla., Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Charles Fremont and Ida Grace Randolph Johnson. He graduated from Enid High School and had been a Vicksburg resident most of his life.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving with Company B-106th Engineers in England, North Africa and Italy. He worked as a property officer at Waterways Experiment Station, retiring in 1973 after 37 years of military and civil service.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served as board chairman and Sunday school teacher.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Johnson Mastronardi; and four brothers, Roy Johnson, Leslie Johnson, Harvey Johnson and Marvin Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Lucile R. Johnson of Vicksburg; two daughters, Laura J. McCaskill and Carol J. Crabtree, both of Vicksburg; two sons, Peter Johnson of Houston, Texas, and Randy Johnson of Ladson, S.C.; a brother, Charles F. Johnson Jr. of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Jan B. Kennedy

TUPELO Jan B. Kennedy died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at her home in Tupelo. She was 59.

Born in Paris, Tenn., Mrs. Kennedy was a former Vicksburg resident. She taught in the Tupelo Public School District for 17 years.

She graduated from the University of Tennessee and received a master’s degree in gifted studies in 2003 from Mississippi University for Women. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Ethel Berry, and two brothers, Don Berry and Larry Berry.

Survivors include her husband, Duwane Kennedy of Tupelo; a son, Ken Kennedy of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Katie Kennedy of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; her sister, Carol Jean Berry of Atlanta; and her brother, Jim Berry of Winter Haven, Fla.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home, Jefferson Street Chapel, in Tupelo. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Simpson County.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Abigayle Lee Stevens

Services for Abigayle Lee Stevens were at 10 a.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial followed at Bethesda Cemetery in Hinds County.

Abigayle died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 9.

She was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg.

She is survived by her parents, Jamie and Angel Stevens; a sister, Maggie Stevens of Edwards; her paternal grandmother, Tamara Warnock of Vicksburg; her paternal grandfather, Ricky Stevens of Tampa, Fla.; her maternal grandparents, Tony and Karen Hubbard of Edwards; her paternal great-grandparents, Ralph and Velma Stevens of Vicksburg; and her maternal great-grandmother, May O’Conner of Edwards.

Pallbearers were Dwight Baker, Jerry Powell, Justin Tucker and Douglas Holder.

Honorary pallbearers were Joel Hubbard and Rodney Hubbard.
