Earl Brown
EDWARDS Earl Brown died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson. He was 86.
A resident of Edwards, Mr. Brown was a deacon and Sunday school teacher for St. Mark M.B. Church. He was a retired insurance agent for Dillon Burial Association.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Brown; and a son, Robert Earl Brown Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Louis Brown of Snellville, Ga., and Alan David Brown of Bronx, N.Y.; one daughter, Adra R. McDermott of Edwards; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Charles Sidney Channell Jr.
MAGEE Charles Sidney “Pete” Channell Jr. died today, Jan. 25, 2005, at Hospice Ministries in Jackson. He was 55.
Mr. Channell was the son of the late Charles Sidney Sr. and Dorothy Thomas Channell. He graduated from Crystal Springs Consolidated High School and attended Delta State University, where he played baseball and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha.
He served in the Mississippi National Guard. He worked for Entergy for more than 24 years and for Baker Engineering in Jackson for eight years.
He was a former member of Alta Woods Baptist Church in Jackson and Immanuel Baptist Church in Vicksburg. He attended Goodwater Baptist Church of Magee.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Channell was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Lynn Channell.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Sidney “Chuck” Channell III of Magee and James Gerald “Jim” Channell of Brandon; two sisters, Patricia Channell Millice of Denver, Colo., and Elizabeth Inez Channell of Houston, Texas; and one grandchild; and aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Goodwater Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee.
Eugene Francis Friedly
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. Eugene Francis Friedly died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at his son’s home in Kaiser, Mo. He was 83.
Mr. Friedly was born in Versailles, Mo., to the late Conrad Adam and Audria Frances Arnold Friedly. In 1941, he moved with his first wife to Andover, N.J., where they worked as dairy farmers.
He returned to Missouri in 1957 with his second wife. He worked as an officer with the Missouri Department of Corrections in Jefferson City for 23 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Jefferson City.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Helen Gail Berkstresser Friedly and Thelma Fisher Friedly; and two grandchildren, Andrew Charles “Andy” Wagner and Veronica Nicole “Roni” Wagner.
Survivors include three daughters, Myrna F. Wagner of Vicksburg, Audria F. Friedly of California, Mo., and Tanya F. Parkes of Latham, Mo.; three sons, Gary G. Friedly of Springfield, Mo., David W. Friedly of Kaiser and Rodger C. Friedly of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; two sisters, Ina Burton F. Cook of Paragould, Ark., and Ada Chlorine Friedly of Versailles; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Services were at 11 a.m. Jan. 11 at Freeman Chapel in Jefferson City with the Revs. Lowell Perkins and Van Mitchell officiating. Entombment followed at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.
William J. Gamble
HATTIESBURG William J. “Pete” Gamble died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. He was 51.
Mr. Gamble was an attorney-at-law and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his father, William J. Gamble and stepmother, Anne Gamble; both of Morganton, N.C.; his wife, Kathy Sones Gamble of Hattiesburg, formerly of Vicksburg; one sister, Judy Walker of Fairfax, Va.; and three daughters, Amy Gamble, Ginny Gamble and Elizabeth Gamble, all of Hattiesburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg. Burial will follow at Coaltown Cemetery in Purvis. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
Emily Josephine Keeling
Emily Josephine Keeling died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at her home. She was 92.
Born in McComb, Mrs. Keeling had been a Vicksburg resident since 1953. She was a retired registered nurse and was a former employee of Vicksburg Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church and AARP.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Keeling.
Survivors include a son, Robert Austin Keeling of Bolivar, Mo.; a daughter, Harriett Gray of Vicksburg; one brother, Charles Martin of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. Matt Buckles officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral ho me.
Pallbearers will be Don Gray, Bill Field, Austin Keeling, Dean Sprouse, Calvin Pugh, Winkey Freeman and David Haworth.
Honorary pallbearers will be George Cain, Richard Marcus, Will Poe and deacons of First Baptist Church.
