Debra Stevenson Arman

Debra Stevenson Arman died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at her home. She was 37.

A Vicksburg native, Mrs. Arman was a former resident of St. Louis, Mo. She had also lived in Louisville and Pearl.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary E. “Liz” Stevenson; her maternal grandparents, Christian Dixon and Walter Edd Jenkins; and her paternal grandparents, Rosie Lee Miller, Robert Mark and Aria and Ed Lewis.

Survivors include her husband, Ross L. Arman Sr. of St. Louis; her father and stepmother, Earnest L. Sr. and Willie Mae Stevenson of Vicksburg; two daughters, Patrice Welch and Sylvia Arman of Granite City, Ill.; four sons, Ross Arman, Lamount Arman, Randy Arman and Andrew Arman, all of St. Louis; two brothers, Earnest Lee Stevenson Jr. of Granite City and Ernst H. Stevenson Sr. of Vicksburg; three sisters, Tracey Stevenson Kidd of Granite City and Pamela Stevenson and Dawn Stevenson, both of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and friends and other relatives, including members of the Martin, Caldwell, Miller, Monroe, Palmer, Arman, Welch and Johnson families of Vicksburg.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

Chester Blake

Chester Blake died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 58.

Mr. Blake was a construction worker. He attended Faith Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Blake Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Louise Giles Blake of Vicksburg; five sons, Warren Green, Christopher Green and Willie Blake, all of Moss Point, Chester Blake Jr. of Greenville and Bobby Blake of Atlanta; four daughters, LaTonya Green, Katura Green, Tiyika Green and Michelle Blake, all of Atlanta; two brothers, Willie Blake Jr. of Moss Point and A.J. Blake of Anniston, Ala.; four sisters, Viola Cooper of St. Louis, Mo., Thelma J. Sumler of Flora and Dora McRunells and Flossie Jones, both of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

Mamie Cawthon Henderson

OAK GROVE – Mamie Cawthon Henderson died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at West Carroll Care Center. She was 87.

Mrs. Henderson was born in Pioneer, La., and was a resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by a son, Carl “Sonny” Whitaker; her parents, Charles Claiborn Cawthon and Martha Elizabeth Baker Cawthon; two sisters, Eunice Plunk and Florabelle Eubanks Parr; three brothers, Basil Cawthon, Fred Cawthon and Carl Cawthon; and a stepbrother, Herman Eubanks.

She is survived by two daughters, Lois Bedenbender of Oak Grove and Myrtle Olson of Grants Pass, Ore.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Will Sheffield officiating. Burial will follow at Kilbourne Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Scott Miley, Randall Hill, Lennie Todd, Jeff Todd, Garry Bedenbender and Ricky James.

Eugene Pete Jenkins

Eugene Pete Jenkins died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 82.

A longtime resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Jenkins was the son of the late Jess and Linnie Williams Jenkins. He retired from the U.S. government and was a member of Bradley’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, J.L. Jenkins, W.H. Jenkins, D.J. Jenkins, Coley Jenkins and Cliff Jenkins; and two sisters, Vira Rutledge and Arma Jean McMillan.

He is survived by a son, Michael Jenkins of Indiana; a daughter, Janice Mitchell of Grenada; one sister, Ann Cumberland of Morton; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Ted Giordano officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the service at Riles Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Glen Worthy, Tony Worthy, Mitch Worthy, Jay Mitchell, Greg Mitchell and Kelly Worthy.

Honorary pallbearer will be Chris Ratliff.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Opal Jean Lowery

Opal Jean Lowery died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at her home. She was 67.

Mrs. Lowery was born in Lake Providence to W.C. Crimm and Wilma Florence Lee. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. She managed Neblett’s Frame Shop.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Lowery.

Survivors include a son, Marcus Donovan Lowery of Vicksburg; two daughters, Melda R. McBroom of Edwards and Ollie Jean Sumerall of Vicksburg; five sisters; seven brothers; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City with the Rev. Doug Inman officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Hern, Joshua Hern, Daniel Sumerall, Jonathan Hern, Hunter Sumerall and Hunter Caston.

Richard Keith Sykes

TALLULAH – Richard Keith “Ricky” Sykes died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in Pineville, S.C., from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. He was 47.

Born in Delhi, Mr. Sykes was a resident of Tallulah. He was in the construction industry and was a certified millwright. He attended First Baptist Church of Tallulah.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Dee “Cadillac” Sykes.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Stone Sykes of Tallulah; his mother, Dorothy Goldsmith of Vicksburg; two sons, Richard K. “Little Ricky” Sykes Jr. of Queen City, Texas, and Christian M. “Scooter” Sykes of Tallulah; four daughters, Candace Tribble of El Dorado, Ark., Breanna Jones of Queen City, Crystal Barrow of Bastrop, La., and Erika Busby of Tallulah; two brothers, Stevie Sykes of Tallulah and Jamie Goldsmith of Vicksburg; two sisters, Lissa Cherene of Tallulah and Tina Goldsmith of Marshall, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Denna Dye.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. John W. Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Stevie Sykes, Ricky Sykes Jr., Loyd Moore, Larry Jones, Eddie Mahoney and Mac McCarty.

Honorary pallbearers will be Aron Wallace, James Harvey, Anthony Scardino, Carl Tarver, Stan Isbell, Ricky Ogden and Jason Willhite.

John Wallace

John Wallace died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 44.

A graduate of Warren Central High School, Mr. Wallace was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a concrete finisher and a member of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Kelly Wallace of Jackson; one son, John Caleb Wallace of Vicksburg; one daughter, Leslie Wallace of Georgia; and four brothers, Ernest “Ernie” Wallace, Dale Wallace, Patrick Wallace and Craig Wallace, all of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Matt Buckles officiating. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon Thursday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ely Wallace, David Lewis, Wayne Trim, Charles Brooks, Robbie Richardson and Billy Bostick.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randall Allen, Michael Brooks and Betty Palmer.
