From staff reports

Most of Warren County’s soccer teams relied on youth to have successful seasons this winter. The few seniors that were around showed why they were so valuable, though.

Three Warren County players have been selected to play in the Mississippi Association of Coaches all-star game on June 18 at Hinds Community College.

Vicksburg High’s Matt Minyard will play in the boys’ game, while VHS’ Miranda Hunt and Warren Central’s Emily Coker will suit up for the girls’ contest.

Minayrd was an offensive force for the Gators. A four-year starter, he tallied 10 goals and two assists while helping Vicksburg to its first state championship game appearance.

The Gators lost to Clinton in the Class 5A final, but won their first division title and first playoff game along the way.

While Minyard was scoring goals, Coker was one of the best in the state at stopping them. The Vicksburg Post girls Player of the Year posted 15 shutouts in goal for the Lady Vikes.

Coker signed with Hinds, where she’ll be a teammate of Hunt’s next season. Hunt, a midfielder for Vicksburg, had seven goals and four assists this season.
