A Bossier City, La., man was killed and two others were injured in a wreck this morning just west of the Interstate 20 bridge over the Big Black River.
Andrew Atkison Jr., 43, was driving a 1989 Mazda pickup with Vickie Alane Hill, 40, 2474 Fisher Ferry Road, as a passenger when it was struck from behind by a Toyota Tundra driven by Phuong Q. Tran, 41, 445 West Point Lane, Brandon, Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. James Walker said.
The wreck was reported at 1:03 a.m. and Atkison was pronounced dead at the scene, Warren County Coroner John Thomason said.
Hill was taken to University Medical Center in Jackson, where spokesman Thyrie Bland said she was in good condition this morning.
Tran was taken to River Region Medical Center, where he was treated and released, hospital spokesman Ginny Miller said.
Records show both vehicles were traveling in the right lane of I-20 West near mile marker 16, about 100 yards west of the bridge, when the impact occurred. The Mazda flipped at least once before coming to rest several car lengths from the right edge of the lanes, Thomason said. Both of its passengers were wearing their seat belts, he said records show.
The wreck happened in drizzling rain but the weather was not believed to have contributed to it, Walker said.
Atkison was an employee of Kansas City Southern Railroad and had a post office box in Vicksburg, Thomason said. He was the fifth person to die in a Warren County traffic accident in 2005.
