Paul Berry Cooper Jr.

JACKSON, Tenn. – Funeral services for Paul Berry Cooper Jr., 77, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 4, 2005, at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel with Dr. Craig Christina officiating.

Mr. Cooper died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tenn. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, a graduate of Ole Miss, and a lifelong and avid Ole Miss football fan.

Mr. Cooper retired from the insurance business after 25 years and owned a ladies’ clothing store with his wife until it closed in 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie Johnston Cooper; three sons, Berry Cooper and wife, Elizabeth, of Memphis, Kimbrough Cooper and wife, Hope, of Jackson and Andrew Cooper of Jackson; one sister, Martha Ann “Twick” Morrison of Vicksburg; and two grandchildren, Will Cooper and Cole Cooper.

John L. Harmon

John L. Harmon died Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Promise Specialty Hospital. He was 88.

Mr. Harmon was born in Warren County. He lived several years in Yazoo County before returning to Warren County. He retired as a purchasing agent for Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Yazoo County.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Harmon; one sister, Nellie Mae Perry; and two brothers, Ernest Franklin Harmon and Clifton Alvin Harmon.

Survivors include two sons, Doug Harmon of Vicksburg and Malcolm Harmon of Hot Springs, Ark.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Vicksburg with the Rev. Billy Brumfield officiating.

Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Rick Harmon, Rusty Harmon, Don Rathburn, Pete Perry, Ed Perry and Dusty Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rob Johnson and Wiley Pritchard Sr.

Eddie Sims Sr.

Eddie Sims Sr. died Sunday, July 3, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 89.

A native of Warren County, Mr. Sims was a retired truck driver for Vicksburg Redi-Mix Concrete. He was a member and deacon at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in the Freetown community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Sally Howard Sims; a daughter, Dorothy Sims Jackson; a stepdaughter, Mary Louise Carter; a stepson, Mitchell Young Jr.; five brothers, Robert Sims Jr., Fred Sims, Albert Sims, Allen Sims and Tommy Lee Sims; and two sisters, Pinkie Harris and Lena Pampley.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Richardson Sims of Vicksburg; two sons, Eddie Sims Jr. of Vicksburg and Charlie Gray of Muskegon, Mich.; seven stepsons, Gregory L. Young, Michael Young, Willie Earl Young and Zachary Young, all of Vicksburg, Elbert Young of Decatur, Ga., and Samuel Richardson and Sam Richardson, both of Maryland; four stepdaughters, Deloris Dixon and Annie Lee Giles, both of Washington, D.C., and Cariola Price and Margie Thambi, both of Vicksburg; one brother, Johnny Sims; and three sisters, Emma Ree Hebron and Bertha Lee Burse, both of Vicksburg, and Rosie Thomas of Chicago.
