DeShawn Delray Brown

TEMPE, Ariz. – DeShawn Delray Brown died Monday, July 18, 2005, in Odessa, Texas, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. He was 16.

DeShawn was born in Los Angeles and was a resident of Tempe, Ariz. He was a junior at McClintock High School in Tempe, where he played football and basketball.

He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Howard Stampley Jr.

He is survived by his parents, John “Pete” and Janice Stampley Brown of Tempe; three brothers, Traymaine Brown, Howard Brown and Jonathan Brown, all of Tempe; three sisters, LaSharon Bell and LaKisha Brown, both of Vicksburg and his twin, KaShawn Brown, of Tempe; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Lillie Scott of Vicksburg; his paternal grandmother, Alice Moore of Detroit; and uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Willie Mae Lewis Daniel

Willie Mae Lewis Daniel died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 79.

Born in Fitler, Mrs. Daniel was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Daniel Sr.; a daughter, Gloria Jean Daniel; one brother, Porter Lewis Jr.; one sister, Leona Howard; and her parents, Porter Lewis Sr. and Adonia Jordan Lewis.

Survivors include a son, James Daniel Jr. of Vicksburg; three sisters, Ollie Mae Hudson of Greenville, Ida Mae Barnum of Onward and Jessie Mae Green of Rolling Fork; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Gracie I. Gentry

Gracie I. Gentry died Monday, July 25, 2005, at her home. She was 69.

Mrs. Gentry was a native of Saucier and had been a Vicksburg resident for 55 years. She was the daughter of the late John H. and Rachel Yates Parker.

She was an assembler for 20 years with Westinghouse-Cooper Lighting Co. and had worked as a bus driver for the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was a member of Wilderness Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Parker and Florence Arthur Butler, and a great-granddaughter, Brooke Gladwell.

Survivors include her husband, Rector Gentry of Vicksburg; six sons, Leon Gentry, James Gentry and Steve Gentry, all of Springdale, Ark., Rector John Gentry of Rogers, Ark., and Tommy Gentry and Lonnie Gentry, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rachel Welch and Jeanette McCammon, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Jessie Moore of Biloxi and Helen Aimsworth, Johnnie Garcia and Lillie Bond, all of Gulfport; and 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Russ Granberry, pastor of Wilderness Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from noon until the service.

Pallbearers will be Vince Welch, James Rone, B.J. Welch, Roger Miller, Michael Clark and Bob Brasfield.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bo McLeod, Danny McCammon and Jim McCammon.
