VHS-Clinton matchup on horizon as playoffs start Tuesday|[1/30/06]

Two old rivals could meet in the second round of the Class 5A state soccer playoffs if they can take care of business on Tuesday.
The Vicksburg Missy Gators, winners of five state championships, open the playoffs on Tuesday at Southaven, while Division 4 winner Clinton High is scheduled to host Grenada.
The two would meet on Saturday at Memorial Stadium, providing both win their first-round games. The two battled for one state championship and have met deep in the playoffs several times.
Four Warren County teams total will participate in the state playoffs. The Warren Central’s Vikings will battle Southaven at 7 Tuesday night in north Mississippi. At Memorial Stadium, the Vicksburg Gators will host Horn Lake at 5:30 p.m. Vicksburg is the defending Class 5A South State champion, and would potentially play either Clinton or Tupelo. Either way, Vicksburg’s second game would be on the road.
The St. Aloysius Flashes will battle Corinth in the upper reaches of northeast Mississippi. The Flashes finished second in their division and will play the Division 1 champions.
The state championship matches are scheduled for Feb. 10 and 11.
