Wilkerson lashes out at lackluster effort|[3/26/06]

St. Aloysius coach Clint Wilkerson became so enraged after his team’s 10-4 victory over Salem on Saturday, he uncharacteristcally declined to comment, saying instead to stick around to see how he felt.

He then spent the next 15 minutes delivering a tongue-lashing that would have had U.S. Marine drill sergeants cowering for cover.

He blasted the Flashes’ effort against one of the weakest teams in the state. He blasted the fact that his team needed seven innings against an opponent who had two players ever play baseball before they got to high school.

Wilkerson’s tirade then shifted to more punishment as he had his team running foul pole to foul pole over and over and over again.

And don’t forget his team won.

Ryno Martin-Nez had three hits and and three RBIs to lead the Flashes’ 10-hit attack. The Flashes (9-6) were helped by five Salem errors and rebounded from an early 2-0 deficit. Chip Donald contributed three hits, including a triple, and Marsh Willis and Pierson Waring each had an RBI in the win.

Salem scored two runs in the top of the first, aided by a pair of St. Al errors on routine plays, souring the fiery Wilkerson early.

Singles by Donald and Martin-Nez coupled with two Salem errors allowed the Flashes to tie the game at 2 after the first inning. St. Al added three runs in the second, one in the fourth and two each in the fifth and sixth innings. Salem was kept off the board until scoring two in the top of the seventh.

Jordan Muirhead pitched two innings for the win. Joseph Brown and Justin Rushing pitched in relief. Rushing pitched the final 2 2/3 innings.

Eric Kennedy pitched five innings and allowed all 10 runs to take the loss.
