NEW ORLEANS – Beatrice Vessel Cheavious died Friday, April 21, 2006, at Hermann Park Manor in Houston, Texas. She was 95.

Born in Jefferson County, Ms. Cheavious lived in New Orleans and worked as a cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pink Vessel and Elva Riggs.

She is survived by relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Crown Pointe United Methodist Church in Fayette with the Dr. Bernell Newsome officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Pointe United Methodist Church Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home.

Taylor Devonte Frazier.

Services for Taylor Devonte Frazier were Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Taylor, the infant son of Arsker Frazier Sr. of Utica and Angela M. Montgomery of Vicksburg, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at River Region Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jessie James Montgomery, and his grandmother, Ida Lee Frazier.

He is survived by two brothers, Arsker Frazier Jr. of Vicksburg and Arsker Fredrico Frazier of Crystal Springs; three sisters, Aliyah Montgomery and Destiny Montgomery, both of Vicksburg, and Tinisha Williams of Crystal Springs; his grandmother, JoAnn Andrews Barnes of Vicksburg; and Leutenant Frazier of Utica.

Cetric Ladell Griffin.

Cetric Ladell Griffin died Friday, April 21, 2006, in Vicksburg. He was 24.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Willie James Griffin Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Ingrid Griffin Winters of Vicksburg; one brother, Markeith Winters of Vicksburg; two sisters, LaQuita K. Winters and Darnisha Winters, both of Vicksburg; his grandmother, Mattie Griffin of Vicksburg; his grandparents, Herman Winters Sr. and Mary Winters, both of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Grove Street M.B. Church with the Rev. Casey Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Beatrice Norfort.

Beatrice Norfort died Thursday, April 27, 2006, at River Region Medical Center. She was 84.

Mrs. Norfort was a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Freetown and a domestic worker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Norfort Sr.; her parents, Ruben and Julia Clark; a son, James Norfort; a daughter, Clintine Norfort Foster; two brothers, Willie Clark and Ben Sanders; and a sister, Rachel Wells.

She is survived by five sons, David Norfort and Andrew Norfort, both of Vicksburg, Ruben Norfort and Robert Norfort, both of Kansas City, Kan., and Curtis Norfort of St. Louis; three daughters, Julia Norfort Jones, Ruth Norfort Carter and Fannie Norfort McNair, all of Vicksburg; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends, including the Williams and Johnson families of Vicksburg.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

Rickey Recardo Whiten.

JACKSON – Services for Rickey Recardo Whiten will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Philip Episcopal Church in Jackson with the Rev. Tom Slawson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday at Lakeover Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.

Mr. Whiten died Wednesday April 26, 2006 at his home in Jackson. He was 48.

A native of Vicksburg, Mr. Whiten was an organist and pianist for many years for Missionary Baptist churches in Vicksburg, Edwards, Pocahontas, Tougaloo and Jackson. He worked most recently at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson, where he had been employed for 13 years before retiring in 2004. He was a member of Tyner-Ford American Legion Post No. 213 in Vicksburg, the Mississippi Academy of Ancient Music and the Jackson French Alliance.

Mr. Whiten was preceded in death by his mother, Lee Thelma Whiten and a brother, Levern Whiten Sr.

He is survived by his wife, LeRhonda F. Whiten; a son Shundarius D. Whiten; his father, Curley Lee Whiten Sr. of Vicksburg; a brother, Curley Lee Whiten Jr. of Vicksburg; three sisters, Maurice W. Brown of Irving, Texas, Debra W. Williams of Detroit and Thelma Denise W. Bell of Vicksburg and his caregiver of 25 years, Max Garriott of Jackson.
