A 16-year-old special education student has returned to classes at Warren Central High School, with bus service now to and from his Fort Hill Drive home.
Also, the 16-year-old student accused of assaulting Ronald Bell has been arrested and his case has been referred to Warren County Youth Court where, police said, the case will be presented.
“His mother brought him,” said Capt. Mark Culbertson of the Vicksburg Police Department. “He was processed and the paperwork was taken to Youth Court, which will set a hearing date.”
The case came to attention when Ronald’s mother, Cathy Causey, filed a complaint against her son’s alleged assailant.
She said her son was being beaten up after leaving the school bus and while walking the 300 yards from the stop to his residence. Ronald was taken to River Region Medical Center for treatment after a third attack.
Causey had refused to send Ronald back to class until school district officials figured out a way to get him to and from Warren Central High safely. He returned after missing a week.
“Ronald went back to school yesterday,” Causey said. “The bus is now picking him up at our front door. He and (the suspect) have been put in different classes.”
The superintendent of Vicksburg Warren School District, Dr. James Price, had said the bus did not have a place to turn around on Fort Hill Drive, but that he would investigate to see if a change could be made. He also said he would make sure the students were separated at school.
Price said it was “a gray area” because school officials could not control the actions of students walking to and from school bus stops, meaning it was a matter for police.
Police said when affidavits are signed naming juveniles as defendants, their parents are called and asked to bring the children in.
Youth Court records and proceedings are confidential.
