LOUISE – Edell C. Buckley died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Greenwood-LeFlore Hospital. He was 71.

He is survived by two sons, Edell Buckley Jr. of Palm Springs, Calif., and Early Buckley of Moreno Valley, Calif.; seven daughters, Johnnie M. Austin, Bobbie Figures, Gloria Ann Buckley, JoAnna Buckley, Alice Buckley and Lashaunda Buckley, all of Moreno Valley, and Shirley Thornton of Louise; two brothers, C.W. Buckley of Citronelle, Ala., and Willie B. Buckley of Omaha, Neb.; and 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Christian Light M.B. Church in Anguilla with Pastor Carl Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Anguilla Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

Lula Mae Butler

MAYERSVILLE – Lula Mae Butler died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at Moreno Valley Community Hospital in California. She was 72.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Butler of Mayersville; five daughters, Elizabeth Weatherspoon, Ann Bolen, Johnnie Mae Butler, Jacqueline Tatum and Lula Fay Butler, all of California; four sons, Johnny B. Butler Jr., Karl M. Butler, John F. Butler and Kent M. Butler, all of California; one sister, Elmira Scott of Rolling Fork; six brothers, John Henry White of Chicago, Eugene White of Kankakee, Ill., James Lee White of Mayersville, Roosevelt White of Oklahoma, Dan White of Atlanta and Otis White of San Antonio, Texas; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Ella Brown of California and Ruby Kline of Rolling Fork.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rose Hill M.B. Church of Mayersville with the Rev. W.C. Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Wake services will be from 5 until 6 p.m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Houston D. Champlin Sr.

WINNSBORO, La. – Funeral services for Houston D. Champlin Sr., age 82, of Winnsboro, La., will be at Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home at 1 today. The Revs. Leon Ward, Wayne Stroud, Gordon Finley and Lloyd Trisler will officiate. Burial will follow at Eva Church of God Cemetery, near Monterey, La.

Mr. Champlin was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Eva, La., and passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at St. Francis North Hospital in Monroe.

He was a resident of Winnsboro and of the Baptist faith. Mr. Champlin faithfully served our country during World War II in the United Sates Army for which he received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. He also honorably served in the Air Force Reserve from 1946 until 1952.

Mr. Champlin retired in 1980 from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development as district project engineer after 33 years of service. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club and a life member of the Louisiana Highway Engineer Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising cattle. He loved spending time on his farm and with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Champlin Sr.; mother, Maudell Pecanty Champlin; a brother, Laures Champlin; and two sisters, Leola Hedricks and Irene Tiffee.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Fatchett Champlin of Winnsboro; two daughters, Kathy Williamson and husband, Corky, of Winnsboro, and Jeannine Beatty and husband, Paul &#8220Tim,” of Vicksburg; a son, Doyal Champlin and wife, Cherry, of West Monroe; a brother, Lonnie Champlin Jr., and wife, Rose, of LaGrange, N.C.; a sister, Addie Calkins of Monterey; eight grandchildren, Laurie Poland, and husband, Michael, Julie Carrington and husband, Adam, Wade Williamson and fiance’, Beth Gilmore, Amy Arnold and husband, Justin, all of Winnsoboro, Alisha Verzwyvelt and husband, Nick, of Vicksburg, Michelle Beatty and fiance’, Jerry Bourne, of Hattiesburg, Hannah Champlin and Jacob Champlin of West Monroe; three great-grandchildren, Samuel Carrington, Ayla Verzwyvelt and Ty Houston Arnold; two uncles, Kelly Pecanty of Monterey and Clyde Pecanty; an aunt, Annie Mae McNeely of Jonesville; and numerous, nieces, nephews and other friends.

Pallbearers will be Joe Champlin, Brian Champlin, Rick Sibley, Brad Calkins, Alan Lipsey and Roy Hinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Cornwell, Frank Calkins and Charles Calkins.

The family received friends at Young’s Community Memorial Funeral Home from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Lloyd Coleman

JACKSON – Lloyd Coleman, formerly of Rolling Fork, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland. He was 46.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Ann Coleman of Jackson; one son, Lloyd Anthony Coleman of Los Angeles; two brothers, Eddie Coleman Sr. of Memphis and Clyde Coleman of Rolling Fork; 12 sisters, LaSonya Coleman of Chicago, Cedella McFarland of Joliet, Ill., Rosetta Moore of Anguilla and Franchester Coleman, LaVern Coleman, Aretha Coleman, Pinkie Coleman, Mildred Coleman, Janet Ford, Charlie Moffett, Barbara Gates and Dorothy Moore, all of Rolling Fork; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Lula M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Bruce Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Tabor Cemetery in Hopedale under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

Geraldine Crawford

SHREVEPORT, La. – Geraldine Crawford died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at her home in Shreveport. She was 56.

Ms. Crawford was a native of Jefferson County and a member of Ebenezer M.B. Church.

Survivors include her mother, Martha Dean Williams of Fayette; six sons, Calvin Crawford of California, Stanley Carter of Fayette, Lesslie Crawford of San Antonio, Texas, Jeremiah Crawford of Houston, Texas, Timothy Crawford of Shreveport and Jonathan Crawford of New Orleans; five daughters, Orelia Crawford, Tyrolean Crawford and Shevondina Crawford, all of Shreveport, Yorkester Crawford of Hot Springs, Ark., and Corvetta Crawford of Harvey, La.; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crown Point United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marvin Eanochs officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Point Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service.

Elizabeth Martin Ewing

ANGUILLA – Elizabeth Martin Ewing died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at her home in Anguilla. She was 87.

Mrs. Ewing was a lifelong resident of Anguilla. She was a graduate of Anguilla High School and attended college in New Orleans. She was an avid golfer, and she loved to fish. She was an active member of the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Rolling Fork.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Ewing; two sisters, Katie Shelby and Lady Taylor; and three brothers, L.E. Martin Jr., Dr. George Martin and John Martin.

Survivors include a son, Tommy Ewing of Anguilla; one sister, Polly Herring of Fort Worth, Texas; and four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church with the Revs. Chan Osborn de Anaya and Craig Bates officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Link Cemetery in Anguilla.

Visitation will be at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork from noon until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be David Ewing, Justin Ewing, Chuck Woods, Richard Woods, Jacky Martin and Glover Greer.

Bessie M. Bush Flowers

BATON ROUGE – Bessie M. Bush Flowers died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, in Baton Rouge, La. She was 77.

Born on March 27, 1929, in Anniston, Ala., she was the third child of George and Louise Bush. Bessie was a longtime member of Grove Street M.B. Church in Vicksburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, the Rev. Timothy Flowers, Sr.; and a sister, Mary Clayton.

She is survived by two sons, Timothy Flowers Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Baton Rouge, and George Flowers of Houston; five daughters, Maggie Flowers of Vicksburg, Shirley Flowers of Memphis, Mary Holbert of Baton Rouge, Sylvia Flowers of Sioux City, Iowa, and Doris Porter of Spring, Texas.

She also leaves to mourn her passing one sister, Lucille Moore; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Home, 11816 Jackson Street, Clinton, La., with the Rev. Bennie Veals officiating. Burial will follow at noon Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg with the Rev. Casey Fisher officiating.

Rosie Johnson

Services for Rosie Johnson will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem M.B. Church on North Washington Street with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at the church from noon Saturday until the service.

Mrs. Johnson died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at her home. She was 79.

Mrs. Johnson was a retired business operator and a member of Bethlehem M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie Spates Sims and Henry Miller; her husband, David Johnson; and a daughter, Della Marie Miller.

Survivors include a son, Michael C. Johnson of Vicksburg; a stepson, David Brooks of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Arieonna Smith.

Marvin B. Kimble

Marvin B. Kimble died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. He was 70.

Mr. Kimble was born in Madison, Ark., to the late Robert Lee Kimble and Catherine Woods Kimble Combs.

He worked in the paint and body departments for Atwood Chevrolet and George Carr Auto. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Lee Kimble and Robert Lynard Kimble.

He is survived by his wife, Mardi Marr Kimble of Vicksburg; three sons, Michael Kimble of Yazoo City, Wayne Kimble of Vicksburg and Benny Grantham of Eagle Lake; three daughters, Morrie Conrad of Tulsa, Okla., Mardi Hemphill of Meridian and Bobbi Edwards of Greenville; a brother, Larry Douglas Kimble of Colt; two sisters, Mary Helen Dennis and Paulette Ross, both of Colt, Ark.; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stevens Funeral Home in Forrest City. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Benny Grantham, Joe Edwards, Brooks Kimble, Mike Kimble, Eric Kimble, Wayne Kimble, Jerry Muirhead, Kevin Muirhead and Stevie Kimble.

John David Lunz

MARYSVILLE, Wash. – John David Lunz, 63, died Jan. 1, 2007. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Lunz home in Marysville, Wash. His ashes will be spread this summer from a kayak in the Puget Sound near his home.

The Lunz family lived in Vicksburg from 1973- 87. John was a biological scientist at the Waterways Experiment Station. He enjoyed many miles of running in the National Military Park and several years as a youth soccer coach. In recent years John enjoyed kayaking, sailing, cycling, and travel with family. He was very active politically on a community level.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Elizabeth Ann Lunz; three children, Ross and his wife, Jeanne, of New Orleans, La., Owen and his wife, Kate, of Lafayette, Colo., and Ethan of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren, Henry and Wyatt; and his siblings, Virginia Gerken of Tucson, Ariz., and Richard Lunz of Columbia, Md.

Wesley William Qualls

LORMAN – Wesley William Qualls died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, as the result of a motorcycle accident in Jefferson County. He was 18.

A lifelong resident of Lorman, Mr. Qualls was employed at Brookhaven Honda Motorcycle Co. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Foster and Pam Baker Qualls of Lorman; one brother, Sean Qualls of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Lee Ann Qualls of Lorman; and his paternal grandmother, Christine Qualls of Ridgeland.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Carl Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jody Butler, Garrett Dune, Bullett Cangemi, Michael Cangemi, Jamie Parker and Junior Nevels.
