Clellon Whitten Blue
Clellon Whitten Blue died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at Covenant Health and Rehab. She was 96.
Mrs. Blue was born in Grayson, La., on April 21, 1910, and had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1929. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Godfrey and Gracie Allen Dunn Whitten. She completed nurse’s training at Vicksburg Hospital and graduated as a registered nurse. She was an operating room nurse and assisted with private duty nursing.
Mrs. Blue was a member of the First Baptist Church, a member of Faith Chapter No. 358 Order of Eastern Star and was a charter member of the Friendship Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. William Harold Blue Sr.; an infant son, Harold Gordon Blue; one sister; and four brothers.
Survivors include a son, William Harold Blue Jr. and wife, Jean, of Vicksburg; and a brother, Trowley John Whitten of Grayson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John G. McCall and Brother Ed Hightower officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be John Black, Charlie Coker, Dr. Jimmy Vessell, Ralph Ludke, V.C. Ahlrich, John A. Boa, Dr. John Stepan and LeRoy Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Peyton and Travis T. Vance Jr.

Kinney Grimes
Services for Kinney “Snake” Grimes will be at noon Saturday at Kingsley Chapel united Methodist Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Hopewell M.B. Church Cemetery in Raymond.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial funeral Home in Vicksburg.
Mr. Grimes died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. He was 82.
Born in Portland, Ark., he was the son of Eddie Grimes Sr. and Emma Hall Smith. He was a former resident of Los Angeles, where he was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church. He was also a member of Most Worshipful Son of Light Grand Lodge and Century Lodge No. 31, serving as tiler.
He retired from the Los Angeles Public Safety Department, Transportation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Eddie Grimes Jr., Henry Grimes, Tommie James Grimes, J.C. Grimes, Willie Grimes and Coleman Grimes.
Survivors include one brother, Walter Jordan of Edwards; two sisters, Mary Moss and Emma Smith Caston, both of Edwards; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Walter Cunningham of Lexa, Ark., and Van Fitzgerald Cunningham III of Carson, Calif.
John Augustus Hendrix Sr.
ST. JOSEPH – Services for John Augustus Hendrix Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.
Mr. Hendrix died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, in Winnsboro. He was 100.
Born in Olla, La., Mr. Hendrix graduated from Louisiana State University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 until 1945. He played semi-professional baseball with the Memphis Chicks. Before retiring in 1974, he worked as an agronomist and superintendent at Northeast Louisiana Experiment Station.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma S. Hendrix; and his parents, Doc H. and Curdeny M. Hendrix.
He is survived by two sons, John A. Hendrix Jr. and James Hendrix; two daughters, Brenda English and Dena Darby; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Memorials may be sent to Tensas Academy or a favorite charity.
Ruth Manor Mangum
Ruth Manor Mangum died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 87.
Born in Yazoo County, Mrs. Mangum had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 45 years. She was a retired licensed practical nurse, working at local hospitals, and she was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Mangum.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Dot McDonald and Jimmy Johnson, both of Memphis, Steve Johnson of Bentonia, Leontyne Stevens of Yazoo City, Wanda Manor of Ridgeland, Johnny Manor of Clinton, Dennis Manor of Byram and Delores Nowell of Vicksburg; and friends, including Mary Gordon of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 10 a.m. until the service.
