Junior high student, 14, found dead at home|[02/06/07]

An investigation was under way this morning to determine the cause of death of a Warren County youth found in the yard of his home on U.S. 61 South Monday evening.

Tyler Townsend was 14 and was found at 15015 U.S. 61 South, said Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey. He was the son of Michelle R. Townsend and was a student at Vicksburg Junior High School.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said his department was called at 4:59 p.m. and told the teen had been found in the yard of his home and was unresponsive.

&#8220CPR was already under way by citizens on the scene” when units from the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, the Fisher Ferry Volunteer and the Vicksburg Fire Department ambulance arrived, Pace said.

The sheriff said the youth was taken to the emergency room at River Region Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

&#8220The manner and cause of death are pending an autopsy that will be performed at the Mississippi Crime Laboratory in Jackson as soon as I can get Dr. Steve Hayne,” Huskey said today. Pace said his investigation is also continuing.

Fisher Funeral Home in Vicksburg will be in charge of services.
