Ida Mae Davis

LORMAN -Services for Ida Mae Davis will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jessimine Ridge Baptist Church in Lorman with the Rev. James Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service at the church.

Mrs. Davis died Monday, March 26, 2007, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 68.

She was a member of Chapter No. 243 Order of Heroines of Jericho and Jessimine Ridge Baptist Church, where she was on the mother board and a member of the choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Davis and Veregetter Nichols; a brother, Kenneth Combs; and a sister, Rosie Thomas.

She is survived by four sons, Julius Davis, Henry Davis and Tracy Davis, all of Lorman, and Kent Butler of San Francisco; two daughters, Thelma Berry of Lorman and Pam White-Anderson of Fayette; four brothers, Isaac Thomas of Moss Point, Johnny Thomas and Charlie Thomas, both of Jackson, and Willie Coleman of Omaha, Neb.; nine sisters, Florence Anthony of Baton Rouge, Juanita Thomas, Sally Hawkins, Cora Blockmon and Julia M. Green, all of Jackson, Delphine Walker of Marietta, Ga., Barbara Fellbanks of Duey, Ark., Sara Hall of Omaha and Joyce Hall of Fort Worth, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and other relatives, including Shonda Cooks of Jackson, Arnell Harried Jr., of Lorman and J.W. Mallet of Port Gibson.

Leroy Varnado

PORT GIBSON – Leroy Varnado died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 85.

Mr. Varnado was a native of Union Church, Miss., and moved to Port Gibson in 1955. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Iceland. He was employed with the American Paper and Tube Company in Port Gibson for 23 years. He was also self-employed, having worked on air conditioners and refrigerators. He was a member of Port Gibson Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Gertrude Varnado; a brother, Howell W. Varnado; and a sister, Leona Lessing.

He is survived by his wife, Nell Coleman Varnado of Port Gibson; two sons, Daniel Leroy Varnado and his wife, Becky, of West Monroe, and Charles Everette Varnado and his wife, Margaret, of Port Gibson; a daughter, Annell V. Parman of Port Gibson and her husband, Buddy, of Port Gibson; eight grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Port Gibson Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Rowan officiating. Burial will follow at Union Church Cemetery in Jefferson County under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Parman, Steven Parman, Rusty Varnado, Darwin Burke, Doug Carson, Chandler Sanders, Josh McKenzie and Octavian Gaddis.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Beaube, Malcolm Montgomery, Eugene Thedford, P.W. Hynum, Sonny Harpole, Dr. David Headley, David Doyle and Ronald Bullock.
