Viola Canda
Services for Viola “Baby Sister” Canda will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive M.B. Church with the Rev. Robert L. Miller Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Ms. Canda died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.
She was a retired domestic worker. She was a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church on Locust Street, where she was on the Usher Board. She was a member of Eureka Temple No. 737 Elks Fidelity Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Canda Sr. and Viola Williams Canda; four brothers, Julius Canda Jr., Arthur Canda, Robert Williams and Samuel Canda; and three sisters, Willie Mae Canda, Rosie Lee Banks and Alma McGowan.
She is survived by a son, Charles Canda Sr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Willie Mae Johnson of Vicksburg and Jeanette Canda of Detroit; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and members of the Shorter, Hill, Nasif, Dixon, DeFrance, Barnes and Martin families.
Roberta Lien Millett
Roberta Lien Millett died Monday, May 21, 2007, at River Region Medical Center. She was 95.
Born in Corsica, S.D., Mrs. Millett had made her home in Vicksburg since 1946. She retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District. She was a charter member of The Lutheran Church of the Messiah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Richard and Edna Smith Lien; her husband, Clarence J. Millett; and a son, Dean C. Millett.
She is survived by a son, Gary J. Millett of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rae Millett Eikert and Robin Millett Holmes, both of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren, Lee Ann White of Loveland, Colo., Steve Millett of Phoenix, Ariz., Jennifer Re of Boca Raton, Fla., Todd Millett of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Karen Holmes Robey of Stillwater, Minn., Rebecca Holmes Viney of Dalton, Ga., Laura Eikert Bailey of Jena, La., Tracy Eikert Deville of Pineville, La., and Paul Jefferson Eikert of Bastrop, La.; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at The Lutheran Church of the Messiah, 301 Cain Ridge Road, with the Rev. Gary D. Osburn officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight, May 23, 2007, at Glenwood Funeral Home. The remains will be taken to the church at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Paul Eikert, Dewayne Bailey, Thomas Holmes, Keith Martin and Zac Smythe.
Memorials may be made to The Lutheran Church of the Messiah or a favorite charity.
Christopher Rawlings
Services for Christopher Rawlings will be at noon Monday at Living Word Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home and Monday at the church from 11 a.m. until the service.
Mr. Rawlings died Sunday, May 20, 2007, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. He was 27.
Mr. Rawlings was employed at Borrello’s Restaurant. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Frances Rawlings Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Katie Rawlings; a maternal grandmother, Alva Meekins Meeks; a brother, Corey Rawlings; and a sister, Almeda Rawlings Carter.
Survivors include his mother, Willette Meekins Rawlings of Vicksburg; a sister, LaTonya Michelle Meekins of Vicksburg; three brothers, Charles Meekins and Clifton Rawlings Jr., both of Vicksburg, and Timothy Rawlings of Richmond, Va.; grandparents, William and Rebecca Murray of Chicago; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and other relatives, including Terrell Walker, Toni Walker and members of the Darden, Rawlings, Meekins, Stewart and Murray families.
