Two juveniles were charged with burglary and malicious mischief this morning after a shotgun and beer were stolen, windows were broken, mailboxes were smashed and a car and roadways were spray-painted, said Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace.

Just before 6 today, residents on Redbone, Jeff Davis, Mallet, and Burnt House roads, all in south Warren County, began reporting their properties had been vandalized. At the same time, deputies on patrol saw more damage and knocked on doors to inform residents.

&#8220A witness had actually seen two juveniles running away from the scene of a vandalism on Jeff Davis, and deputies were able to quickly identify the juveniles,” Pace said.

In custody were a 12-year-old and 13-year-old, both charged with two counts of burglary and &#8220multiple counts of malicious mischief.”

Pace said the two were spending the night with each other not far from where the vandalism occurred.

&#8220They snuck out of the house during the night, had access to a four-wheeler, and rode that general area,” he said. &#8220Some of it was done on foot.”

As of this morning, deputies had received 19 reports of property damage, &#8220from spray painting automobiles to shattering windows on automobiles to mailbox vandalism,” Pace said.

Using orange spray paint taken from a county motor grader parked at Jeff Davis and Redbone roads, Pace said, the vandals painted graffiti on the road in front of a home at 5542 Jeff Davis. They also painted orange a white Crown Victoria at the residence.

&#8220All of this is going to cost several thousand dollars,” Pace said. &#8220The victims are still assessing damage. This is a senseless criminal act and will not be treated as a prank.”

The vandals, Pace said, also took a weed-trimmer, a .410-gauge shotgun and beer from a home on Friar Road. The gun was recovered, but Pace would not say whether it was used in the vandalism.

&#8220That is still under investigation.”

A woman who lives in the 6500 block of Jeff Davis Road said she heard gunshots about 5 and found four windows in her two cars had been shattered.

The juveniles will be turned over to Warren County Youth Court, Pace said.
