Mary John Meeks died at her home Sunday, July 29, 2007. She was 81.

A former employee of the U.S. Postal Service, Ms. Meeks was a member of Mount Calvary M.B. Church of San Diego.

She is survived by her husband, Newton Meeks of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tyrone Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Thomas E. Murphy Sr.

Thomas E. Murphy Sr. died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at Heritage House Retirement Center. He was 93.

Born in Birmingham, Ala., he had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1935. He was the son of the late John Kelly Murphy and Lena Garland Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was a graduate of the University of Alabama, receiving a degree in civil engineering. He served in World War II with the 1st Army Intelligence Corps and later served in Korea, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Murphy was employed by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station for 38 years, retiring as chief of the Hydraulics Structures Division in 1973.

He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a past president of the Y’s Men’s Club and a communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Fortner Murphy; a brother, John Kelly Murphy Jr.; a sister, Mary Murphy Morgan; and a granddaughter, Norma Ann Morrissey.

He is survived by a daughter, Florence M. Boren of Vicksburg; a son, Thomas Edward Murphy Jr. of Vicksburg; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. P.J. Curley, pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Monday until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Amborn, Paul Banchetti, John Hite, Bo Morrissey, Blake Boren, Barry Palmertree, Ron Muffuletto and Jack Burrell.

Honorary Pallbearers will be John Byrum and Joe Gerache.

Memorials may be made to Vicksburg Catholic School, 1900 Grove St., Vicksburg, MS 39183.

Adrian Denise Johnson Walker

Services for Adrian Denise Johnson Walker will be 1 p.m.Tuesday at New Hope M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Frank Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Robbins Funeral Home and Tuesday from noon until the hour of service at the church.

Mrs. Walker died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. She was 53.

Mrs. Walker was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Bovina. She was employed as head cook at Taco Casa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Meeka Johnson.

Survivors include her husband, Leon Edward Walker; four sons, Dedric Walker of Gary, Ind., Cliff Gardley and Kantad Gardley, both of Chicago, and Monte Jackson of Vicksburg; two brothers, Carl Anderson and John Tate, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Stephanie John and Lula Rebecca Davis, both of Vicksburg, Tammy Tate of Minneapolis and Whysheena Flowers of Fresno, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
