Caples delivers for Warren Central; WC soccer teams excel at St. Andrew’s|[11/28/07]

Warren Central junior Sha’Kayla Caples scored a game-high 26 points and Ricille Davis added 13 as the Lady Vikes squeezed past Crystal Springs 58-54 on Tueday in girls basketball.
The Lady Vikes improved to 5-3 on the season and will host the Warren Central Classic starting Thursday in what could be one of the most competitive classics in history.
Warren Central opens the tournament on Thursday at 4 against archrival Vicksburg High. South Pike and Callaway are scheduled to play at 7.
On the boys’ side of the bracket, Vicksburg will play Piney Woods on Thursday at 5:30, while Warren Central will play Callaway at 8:30.
There are four games scheduled for Friday with the girls championship scheduled for 7 p.m. and the boys at 8:30. Consolation games will begin Friday at 4.
(B) Crystal Springs 80, WC 56
Dino Harris scored 15 points and Jeremye Smith added 13, but the Warren Central Vikings fell behind by 18 at halftime en route to the defeat.
Jamal Tobias led all scorers with 21 points to pace Crystal Springs.
(B) Richland 59, St. Al 38
Host Richland staked itself to a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised past the Flashes (1-4).
Alex Lanier scored 12 points and Pierson Waring added seven in the loss.
The Flashes played even with Richland in the second quarter, but were outscored 18-11 in the third as the hosts took a 17-point lead into the final quarter.
The Flashes are scheduled to play in the Catholic Schools Tournament at Madison-St. Joseph on Friday.
(G) Richland 47, St. Al 34
Elizabeth Mazzanti scored a game-high 18 points, but the Lady Flashes fell behind early in losing to Richland.
The hosts took a 12-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 24-15 at halftime.
Tori Hines scored seven in the loss.

(G) WC 1, St. Andrew’s 1
Kristine Fischenich scored the game’s first goal on an assist from Lindsey Burris as the Lady Vikes improved to 4-0-2 with the tie.
St. Andrew’s scored right before the half and the two teams played scoreless soccer throughout the second half.
(B) WC 2, St. Andrew’s 1
Heath Carroll and Sean McRaney each scored a goal and the Vikings improved to 4-2 with a win over St. Andrew’s
The Vikings and Lady Vikes are scheduled to play in the Northwest Rankin Tournament beginning on Thursday at Millsaps College.
(B) Clinton 6, Vicksburg 0
Taylor McKee scored a hat trick and the Arrows remained unbeaten by slamming the Gators.
Phillip Malique, James Gulley and Jason Brent all scored goals as the Arrows improved to 4-0-1.
(G) Clinton 4, Vicksburg 0
Madison McKee scored two goals, while Lesly Melo and Emily Nations each scored one as the Lady Arrows beat the rival Missy Gators.
