A Vicksburg man and a Vicksburg High School student were treated and released from River Region Medical Center Thursday evening after two unrelated shootings, said Lt. Bobby Stewart of the Vicksburg Police Department.

In the first shooting, a 16-year-old student was driven to the hospital by his mother at about 9 p.m. after a fight led to him being grazed by a bullet, which wounded his left forearm, Stewart said. The shooting happened between Stadium Drive, across from Vicksburg High School, where a track meet was taking place, and National Street.

“We’re still investigating — he didn’t identify who he was fighting with,” Stewart said. “He said he didn’t know them. He told police he heard a shot and took off running. When he was back at the track meet — that’s when he realized he had been grazed.”

Separately, Timothy Ross, 32, 1956 Sky Farm Ave., apparently drove himself to River Region, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said. He said he had been wounded in a fight at the South Street Shopette, 1318 South St., after it escalated into shots at about 10 p.m. Ross told police he had been shot through the left forearm, Stewart said. No suspects were named.
