ACHIEVEMENTS
Roderick Aaron Erves, a senior at Mississippi Valley State University, has been named Omega’s Scholar of the Year by the Beta Theta chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He was also named a presidential scholar. He plays fullback for the MVSU Delta Devils and is majoring in biology with a minor in health and an emphasis in education. He is the son of Robert and Dr. I.V. Erves and the grandson of Margie Woodson and the late Nathan Woodson and Bettye Erves and the late Robert Erves Sr.
Warren County students chosen to attend the Mississippi School of the Arts in Brookhaven were Kristi Ezernack, Ellie Sills and Sarah Thurmon, all of Vicksburg High.
DEGREES
Catherine A. Jenkins of Vicksburg has received a bachelor of science degree from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala.
Jennifer King has graduated magna cum laude from University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she received her doctor of dental medicine degree. She is a graduate of Warren Central High School and Mississippi State University and will begin her practice in July at Old Towne of Ridgeland. She is the daughter of Bo and Cindy King of Vicksburg and granddaughter of Stella Calhoun of Vicksburg and Otto and Grace King of Terrytown, La.
Donna Delois Smith received a bachelor of social work with a minor in psychology during May commencement exercises at Jackson State University. She was a member of the Psychology Club and Social Work Student Association and was named to the dean’s list. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and will pursue a master of social work in JSU’s Graduate Program in the fall.
HONOR ROLLS
Robelene R. Foster of Vicksburg has been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia.
Jessica Collins and Michael Shinn, both of Vicksburg, have been named to the president’s list for the spring semester at Meridian Community College. Those named to the spring dean’s list were Crystal Davidson, Holly Head, Colby Hopkins, Chelsa Jones, Kari Lieberman and Jillian Rush.
Emily Henry and Catherine Jenkins, both of Vicksburg, have been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala.
IN ATTENDANCE
Brittany Gibson and Bettye Banks, 2008 graduates of Vicksburg High School, are participating in summer science programs at Jackson State University designed to help bridge the gap from high school to college. Brittany is a participant in the Louis Stokes Mississippi Alliance for Minority Participation program, and Bettye is a participant in the Science and Technology Access to Research and Graduate Education program.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Sallie Ray of Vicksburg has been named a recipient of the Community Service Scholarship, as well as a 2008 recipient of the Christian Leadership Scholarship, at University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. She is the daughter of Mary Ray and attends First Baptist Church.
