McKayla Daves, daughter of Johnny and Connie Daves of Newellton, shot her first deer a day after her sixth birthday and just an hour before the youth season closed on Oct. 26. She was hunting on Daves Gator Farm property near Tensas Parish with her father and brothers, Coty and Cole, and shot the spike buck at about 40 yards with her 9mm Rockriver Arms rifle. “It was a great birthday present for her, and she couldn’t have been happier,” her father said.
