HERMANVILLE — Amos Hill Sr. died Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at his home in Hermanville. He was 78.

Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie R. Hill; his parents, Henry and Emma Collier Hill; and four sons, Lester Hill, Henry Hill, Amos Hill Jr. and Billy Hill.

He is survived by four sons, Sammie L. Hill of Hermanville, Leslie Hill of Port Gibson, Antonio Hill of Jackson and Albert Crowder of Chicago; three daughters, Mary E. Wrighten of Vicksburg, Ollie M. Hill of Hermanville and Patricia Chambers of Port Gibson; a sister, Mary Banks of Cleveland, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Hermanville with the Rev. Robert Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Hermanville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 5 today at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Wednesday at the church from noon until the service.
