Army Pvt. Adrian V. Berry has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, he studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
The son of Theresa Powers, he is a 2008 graduate of Port Gibson High School.
Navy Reserve Petty Officer 1st Class Jerry O. Moore is deployed at a forward operating base in Afghanistan to support the mission of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Moore is an operations supervisor and is a member of Khost, the Afghanistan provincial reconstruction team based at Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, N.C. He has served in the military for more than 18 years.
He is the son of Otto and Linda Moore of Vicksburg and is a 1990 graduate of Warren Central High School.
Army Reserve Lt. Col. Marshall D. Banks has returned to the 412th Engineer Command based in Vicksburg after being deployed to an overseas forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While deployed, he served as the officer in charge of two different offices with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Gulf Region Central. He assisted in the management of more than 100 projects, which included water treatment plants, police stations, judicial buildings, health clinics, sewer systems and schools.
A civil engineer officer, he has served in the military for 22 years. He is the son of Laurinda B. Banks and is a 1986 graduate of Port Gibson High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1991 and a master’s degree in 1993 from Alcorn State University. He is married to the former Jannifer Fisher of Utica.
Curtis E. Thompson has been promoted to the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard. He is a petroleum supply specialist with the 527th Forward Support Company, Ruston La.
A 1989 graduate of Lake Providence High School, he is the son of Carolyn Thompson of Lake Providence. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1995 from Grambling State University.
